Job Description
Wood Process & Energy is recruiting an experienced Senior Piping Designer on a contract basis based in our client site at Mossmorran, Fife.
Responsibilities
You will be expected to work pro-actively and autonomously on-site under the guidance of the client to undertake piping design studies and produce piping design deliverables to route and tie in ~1800m of pipework within an existing brownfield petrochemical facility based at Mossmorran in Fife.
Work will entail performing desktop studies and review of existing information, performing site surveys and producing photopacks, line shoots, routing isometrics and MTOs for estimating purposes. You will be expected to also present results and findings on a regular basis to onsite project delivery team.
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:
1. Develops working drawings, within company and industry standards and codes, from equipment specifications and detailed drawings to support completion of engineering deliverables.
2. Creates drawings involving plans, layouts, calculations and bills of material.
3. Works on assignments involving a variety of design procedures and techniques.
4. Records observations, performs calculations and prepares reports on assignments.
5. Performs layouts, design and checking work from the basic data supplied.
6. Designs and makes detailed drawings from rough sketches involving intricate calculations and the application of fundamental engineering principles.
7. Establishes project drafting standards and monitors their conformance.
8. Identifies cost-effective solutions to design problems.
9. Assists in the preparation of bid evaluations.
10. Designs and constructs models, prototypes, processes or equipment; compiles and evaluates data, makes recommendations, prepares reports.
11. Prepares estimates of time, quantities, materials and labour required for activities related to testing, installation, manufacture, design or construction.
12. Generates bill of materials from finished designs.
13. At more experienced levels, may act as coordinator on small projects, prepare specifications for complex equipment, processes, etc.
14. Ensures quality in design, and technical accuracy in the preparation of drawings, material quantities, etc including reviewing others' work at more senior levels.
15. Plans assigned work effectively and obtains/provides information liaising with the project team and line manager, in time to control man-hours and achieve targets.
16. Carries out site visits/surveys and provides inputs to site visit reports.

Qualifications
Who we are looking for:
1. Minimum ISCED level 5 short-cycle tertiary education in engineering discipline.
2. A full understanding of the materials and methods normally used in their discipline.
3. An understanding of related engineering principles and practices, plus training and diversified experience in the field of activity is required.
4. Capable of interpreting key documents including; engineering standards, piping material specifications, P&IDs and Line Lists.
5. Technically oriented, mechanically inclined, good at mathematics and talented at translating intangible concepts into hands-on project plans.
6. Competent user of CAD/D software.
