Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide independent, high-quality care in general urology and specialist areas.
2. Perform advanced stone surgeries, including PCNL, ureteroscopy, and lithotripsy.
3. Actively contribute to the expansion and enhancement of the stone service and related clinical pathways.
4. Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to deliver efficient and effective care.
5. If required in the future - Participate in on-call duties, managing acute urological cases with confidence.
6. Contribute to departmental clinical governance, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.

The Department
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Urology Specialist to join our dynamic and expanding team. This position represents the new national grade for senior SAS doctors, designed to recognize highly skilled professionals working at a senior level of responsibility. The role has been created to reflect the Urology Department's commitment to high standards of care and innovation.
You will join a supportive and collaborative team led by Mr. Fani (Clinical Lead), alongside consultants Mr. Abbasi, Mr. Apalidis, Mr. Khawaja, and Mr. Kotlar. The team also includes a Senior Clinical Fellow, an ST4 Trainee, a well-established nursing team consisting of 2 Band 8 Nurses, 4 Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS), 1 Macmillan Support Worker, and 2 Band 6 Nurses. We have a dedicated Urology Outpatient Clinic, as well as access to Ward 10 and Sitwell Ward for surgical procedures.
Our department provides a full range of services in general urology, andrology, oncology, paediatric urology, female urology, and advanced stone management. As part of our ambition to expand our stone services, we are particularly seeking candidates with expertise in stone surgery, including PCNL (Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy).
The Post
Job Plan and Working Pattern
The proposed job plan will aim to include a balanced rota, offering exposure to a variety of clinical activities, including:
1. Theatre sessions for surgical procedures.
2. Endoscopy and urodynamics clinics.
3. Participation in ward rounds to ensure comprehensive patient care.
4. Time allocated for specialist clinics in areas such as stone management and other urological subspecialties.
5. At present, there is no provision for out-of-hours on-call duties, though this may be negotiated in the future based on departmental needs and individual preferences.

* Completed a minimum of 12 years medical work (either continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification, of which a minimum of six years should have been in a relevant specialty in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades. Equivalent years experience in a relevant specialty from other medical grades, including from overseas, will also be accepted.
