As a part of the Mechanical R&D team for upper limb prosthetics, you will be a Test Engineer responsible for the development and implementation of test methodologies for both development projects and existing products in the Bionic Upper Limb portfolio of a global prosthetics company. You will play an integral part in the overall Development team, providing knowledge, expertise and support across all functions with a focus on developing robust and innovative testing solutions to support ongoing development, to verify design solutions and to better understand the long-term capability of complex electro-mechanical products. You will communicate effectively cross-departmentally around testing criteria, project progress and planning of your workload. Your role To effectively liaise with Technology Managers and Project Managers to deliver on departmental objectives and goals. To develop, implement and perform testing procedures which support the development of new products and the maintenance of existing ones. This is to be undertaken with minimal oversight. To undertake systematic analysis of failures which occur during testing, utilising a variety of Root Cause Analysis methods To independently design, build, qualify and maintain test fixtures to support the performance of defined testing procedures. To provide informed and accurate information on development tasks that enables successful planning. To translate technical and functional design requirements into testing requirements to support the development of testing procedures. To work collaboratively with Design & Development Engineers, along with Manufacturing Engineers, to identify product areas that require testing, both on a modular and full product level. To maintain the equipment required for testing procedures, to include the management of Equipment Calibration. To document and present the results of testing performed in a structured manner such that guidance can be provided to Engineering Staff. Working to the Medical Device Regulations, to complete and maintain the paperwork necessary to comply with the process, especially in the area of Product Verification. Managing your own workload, identifying day to day priorities by assessing departmental goals and effective communication of negative impacts. Who you are Minimum of 8 Years of relevant experience with Vocational Degree or 4 years of experience with Bachelor’s degree Experience within the Medical Devices Industry – ideally within Verification or Validation Testing. Expertise with both Mechanical and Electrical testing – including displayed ability to design and develop test equipment and processes In depth knowledge and understanding of equipment required to perform Mechanical and Electrical testing – including data acquisition and interpretation. Displayed capability in Computer Aided Design. Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently, and to prioritize work according to defined guidelines. Capability to provide mechanical or electrical specifications to outside suppliers for the procurement of bespoke equipment Is comfortable in working with hand tools and able to plan, build and validate working systems. High quality technical communication skills, both written and verbal and in both formal and informal settings Preferred skills include experience with SolidWorks, software-driven testing equipment, basic electronics knowledge, and proven analytical Root Cause Analysis skills.
