Required for September 2025
We are looking to appoint a Deputy Headteacher to start in September 2025. The vacancy has arisen because the current Deputy has decided to retire after serving the school community for the past 20 years. He started his role as Curriculum Deputy and moved into the Human Resource (HR) role following the retirement of the other Deputy in 2013.
The current SLT structure and responsibilities will be shared with shortlisted candidates, but this post is for a Deputy Headteacher responsible for HR. The essential responsibilities include Single Central Record, directed time, staff recruitment and retention, disciplinary procedures, appraisal and pay recommendations, sickness absence, leave of absence, liaison with supply agencies and marketing of the school. Other responsibilities that have arisen over time and circumstance include leading on whole school IT, GDPR and online safety.
Frederick Gough School has been the most oversubscribed school in North Lincolnshire for the last nine years. Ofsted (Nov 2023) described our school as truly comprehensive where pupils are happy, kind and respectful and where teachers and leaders are proud to work. We genuinely believe in a well rounded education being the key to ensuring a successful society for the future and would ask that you read our curriculum intent on our website as well as other key documents to get a feel of what we are about. We are proud of our values and positive culture and have attached some of the additional benefits of being part of the Fred Gough Family.
The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and we expect applicants to have the same commitment. For all applicants there will be an enhanced DBS check including children’s barred list information. It is an offence for anyone barred from working with children to apply for this position.
Further details are available from the school and interested candidates are welcome to visit the school by appointment in advance, to meet with the current Deputy, Mick Dalton,
The closing date for applications is noon on Monday 24 February. Shortlisting will be on Tuesday 25 February with interviews being held on Wednesday 5 and Thursday 6 March.
Shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a safer recruitment, self-disclosure form and submit it prior to interview. References will be obtained prior to interview and an online search carried out following ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education 2024’.
As an employer, we promote and safeguard the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect the same commitment from existing and prospective employees or volunteers. Recruitment to this post will follow our safer recruitment procedure which includes us requesting references prior to interview and a DBS check.
