An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and dedicated Pharmacy Technician to join our clinical pharmacy team. This post is a band 4/5 Senior Clinical Pharmacy Technician development opportunity. Depending on the initial skill set and experience of the candidate, they will either be employed directly at band 5 level or will complete relevant training at band 4 level. Upon successful completion of the training and evaluation, the post holder will automatically become Senior Clinical Pharmacy Technician (band 5).
Main duties of the job
The role involves providing a rotational clinical service to specialist ward areas undertaking activities which will include:
* Identifying patients at a higher clinical risk, ensuring that they are prioritised
* Obtaining drug histories using summary care records and reconciling against the patients prescription chart
* Assessing patients' own medicines
* Ordering patients' medicines as part of discharge preparation
* Developing a skill set within a variety of specialist areas
You will be a key member of the clinical pharmacy team serving a range of specialties across the hospital site. The role will also include dispensary-based duties including dispensing and checking inpatient and discharge prescriptions for patients within agreed turnaround times. The successful candidate will be given the opportunity to develop their clinical knowledge and undertake a nationally recognised medicines management and clinical prioritisation programme.

Qualifications/Registration
* BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians or equivalent nationally recognised qualification which meets requirements for registration with the GPhC
* Once step up programme completed or upon appointment - National Accredited Checking Technician (ACT) qualification or working towards and due to complete imminently. The requirement of the qualification is to meet the national framework which includes a portfolio which evidences an accuracy check of 1000 items, end test and interview
* Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
Experience
* Recent experience of working within a pharmacy department as a Pharmacy Technician
* Patient counselling skills – pleasant professional and caring manner, knowledge of the use of medicines and advising patients and assessing pharmaceutical care needs
* Hospital-based experience
* Experience of medicines management and patients' own drugs schemes
* Experience of the use of hospital IT systems e.g. patient management, Discharge Medicines system and pharmacy automation
Skills, Ability and Knowledge
* Computer literate with good general keyboard skills for using pharmacy computer systems
* Literate and numerate
* Flexible approach to work
* Ability to mentor and train junior staff enabling them to achieve their goals
* Supervisory skills to supervise Pharmacist Assistants, Students, Pre-Registration Students, Bank staff, Rotational Pharmacy Technicians
