Durham Aged Mineworkers’ Homes Association (DAMHA) is the largest almshouse charity in the country. Our core area of operation is the former County Durham coalfield. Established in 1898, we have around 1,700 homes, predominantly bungalows, on 130 sites in 80 villages, providing retirement housing for more than 2,000 North East residents. We also have sheltered accommodation and leasehold schemes for the elderly.
DAMHA has a rich history of providing quality housing and support to retired mineworkers and their families in Durham. Our commitment to enhancing the lives of our residents is reflected in our continuous efforts to improve our services and facilities. We are proud of our heritage and the positive impact we have on the community.
This is an exciting time to join DAMHA as we embark on new initiatives to support our ambition to continually enhance our services to our residents. We are focused on sustainability, aiming to build an average of ten new homes per year while meeting our net-zero goals. We are also improving our data management and exploring the potential of AI to enhance our services.
