The Environmental Engineering Manager at Thames Water is crucial in driving environmental initiatives and ensuring regulatory compliance. They lead a team responsible for key functions, including setting environmental expectations on capital projects, developing the carbon strategy, and providing environmental input in various projects and initiatives. Their work is instrumental in promoting sustainability, biodiversity, and nature-based solutions within the organisation. By staying updated on environmental legislation and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, they ensure that Thames Water meets its environmental responsibilities effectively.
This role is a secondment role for up to 6 months.
What you’ll be doing as an Environmental Engineering Manager
* Managing the Environmental Engineering team.
* Establishing a cohesive, sustainable engineering structure from graduates to industry experts that lead Thames Water’s engineering requirements into AMP8 and beyond.
* Developing and enabling our carbon strategy.
* Including Biodiversity and Heritage protection from the project definition.
* Providing environmental support to Asset management projects definition.
* Providing environmental input in PR 24.
* Raising awareness of environmental developments and engineering solutions.
* Keeping up to date with relevant changes in environmental legislation and initiatives.
* Working with consultants, contractors, and teams across Thames Water to identify risks and constraints and implement solutions at project definition stages.
* Setting environmental expectations on capital schemes, carbon, increasing biodiversity and promoting nature-based solutions.
* Define, develop, and maintain environmental engineering competencies across the business.
* Provide technical sign-off and assurance during technical delivery, including handover.
* Devising the best tools and systems to monitor performance and implement strategies.
* Assessing, analysing, and collating environmental performance data and reporting information to stakeholders.
Hybrid – Clearwater Court, you will be required in the office and on-site as the business requires you.
36 hours a week, Monday - Friday.
What you should bring to the role
* Be a highly experienced and recognised environmental engineering leader with several years working within the water industry.
* Understand the regulatory environment to achieve compliance with our engineering regulatory requirements.
* Excellent leadership and communication skills, both internally and externally.
* Be collaborative and can influence senior colleagues.
* Educated to degree level or equivalent, likely in an engineering discipline with a postgraduate qualification and preferably with a professional chartership.
* A passion for continuous professional development and an active approach to driving diversity within our engineering function at Thames Water.
* Good budget management experience.
