The Opportunity:
Laing O'Rourke has an opportunity for a Senior Design Manager to join our Life Sciences and Healthcare portfolio across the country. The role can be based from any of our Laing O'Rourke offices including Dartford, Sale, Leeds, Newcastle, St Neots, Glasgow, and the factory in Worksop.
A Laing O'Rourke Senior Design Manager leads the delivery of effective design across multiple projects or a large-scale project. They focus on, and lead, the pre-construction phase design processes, liaising with the client, design team, in-house bid team, and operations team. On live projects, they implement and lead processes that enable collaborative design challenges and risk reduction.
The Senior Design Manager is a senior member of the Design Job Family and Technical Function, ensuring technical excellence, assurance, and performance across all projects from pre-project to delivery. All designers are part of our Engineering Enterprise, which aims to maximize design potential to increase project certainty.
What will the role look like?
* Leading pre-construction briefing and design processes.
* Managing design procedures, linking commercial, construction, and design teams throughout the project.
* Enabling collaborative design challenges and interrogations.
* Managing the production, control, and distribution of design information at various stages.
* Reporting on design progress regularly.
* Reviewing design information for buildability, safety, maintainability, completeness, compliance, and technical suitability.
* Promoting innovation in design management, methodology, processes, and practices.
* Supporting the Design Leader in promoting the company's vision and values in all activities.
Technical Capabilities:
* Creating and owning the design brief.
* Design for Manufacture and Assembly.
* Information and Change Control.
* Design compliance.
Skills & Experience:
* First degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent construction-related qualification with design experience.
* Approximately 10 years of experience, sector specialization, managing design in construction or building services projects, likely with international experience.
