The role
The Senior Building Services Engineer will support the production of viability/feasibility studies, preparing employers requirements and developing and maintaining engineering guidance and standards to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and the Council’s strategic objectives.
Qualified in an engineering related subject, with current membership of a professional institution (e.g. CIBSE, IET, IMechE) and significant experience of working within a multi-disciplinary engineering environment. This role will have proven ability to translate research into quality technical engineering advice and guidance which supports internal and external partners to deliver quality outcomes and promote the Councils energy efficiency targets.
Accountabilities
1. Responsible for providing quality engineering research and translating this to promote continuous use and understanding of engineering design, strategies, policies and standards.
2. Contribute to the delivery of viability and feasibility studies and the preparation of employer’s requirements to meet programme deadlines and project budget.
3. Deliver concise quality design standards advice and guidance to stakeholders, to achieve value for money.
4. Contribute to the provision of appropriate building design expertise to external Design Services providers.
5. Work collaboratively with stakeholders to develop and maintain quality engineering guidance and standards, which are compliant with statutory requirements and the Council’s strategic objectives. Ensuring these are available to external Design Services providers.
6. Work collaboratively with appointed external Design Services to appraise technical quality of design documentation and associated specifications at review milestones. Providing constructive feedback to influence best practice and positively impact on outcomes.
7. Deliver quality technical design and specification advice in a timely fashion to the group’s site-based Quality Inspection Team.
8. Contribute to the effective investigation and resolution of apparent or alleged engineering defects, whilst minimising the impact on the customer.
9. Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
1. Educated to degree level, HNC engineering related subject desirable or equivalent by experience.
2. Evidence of continuing professional development, expert knowledge in relevant professional area, and membership of a Professional Institution (e.g. CIBSE, IET, IMechE, etc.).
3. Significant experience of working within a multi-disciplinary engineering environment.
4. Knowledge and experience of research into and/or promulgation of specification standards.
5. An ability to build influential relationships and partnerships which encourage collaboration and engender delivery.
Please note that the job role requires you to be mobile throughout an operational area. Therefore, the post holder will need to have a driving licence and access to a vehicle, or the ability to meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means.
