Founded in London, in 2010, Glassworks London is a well-established chain of fashion retail stores in London. We are committed to maintaining high standards across all aspects of our business, including the upkeep of our existing physical locations and the fit out of new units. THE ROLE We are looking for a reliable and experienced Handy/Maintenance Technician to lead the maintenance and upkeep of our retail stores in London. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in general building, carpentry, minor plastering, tiling, painting and decorating as well as a basic knowledge of electrical installations/repairs. This is a part-time freelance position working approx. 4 days per month across our London stores with additional days available for project work related to new permanent and temporary retail store openings. RESPONSIBILITIES Perform general maintenance and repairs on retail store premises, including carpentry work, painting, plumbing, and minor electrical tasks. Conduct routine inspections of store facilities to identify and address maintenance issues in a timely manner. Respond promptly to maintenance requests from store managers and staff, and prioritise tasks based on urgency. Assist with the installation and assembly of fixtures, shelving units, signage, and other store equipment as needed. Collaborate with brand and store managers as well as other team members to coordinate maintenance schedules and minimise disruption to store operations. Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, including work performed, and materials purchased (with receipts for all as well as any other relevant documentation. Adhere to health and safety regulations and best practices to ensure a safe working environment for all staff and customers. JOB REQUIREMENTS Proven experience in general building maintenance and carpentry, with a strong understanding of construction techniques and materials. Some experience with electrical work is highly desirable, although not essential. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot maintenance issues effectively. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Flexible availability to accommodate varying work schedules and project timelines. Valid driver's licence and access to reliable transportation for travel between store locations. Ability to provide own tools and equipment for maintenance tasks.
