Service/Ward/Department Summary:
Saffron is a 23-bedded intermediate care ward admitting patients from both the community (step-up beds) and Stepping Hill hospital (step-down beds). We deliver outstanding holistic care and treatment to patients presenting with delirium/depression and dementia that are not optimized and thus unsafe to return to their usual place of residency. Our aim is for our patients to be physically and mentally optimized and placed in the most appropriate setting. We also carry out cognitive testing where appropriate and work with our Consultant Psychiatrist in giving new diagnoses of dementia and managing/treating such symptomatology.
We work collaboratively with the MDT, families/carers, and social care, in ensuring a holistic care plan and contingency is achieved to secure an effective and robust discharge plan. Saffron Ward is a very busy and rewarding environment. We are supported by a full multidisciplinary team of Consultant Psychiatrists, Mental Health Nurses, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapists, and Speech and Language Therapists, support and therapy workers. We also work closely with our mental health liaison team and memory assessment services when patients require signposting/further reviews.
We are proud to provide high-quality mental health and learning disability services, both inpatient and in the community across five boroughs of Greater Manchester - Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport, and Tameside and Glossop. Our vision is for a happier and more hopeful life for everyone in our communities and our staff work hard to deliver the very best care for the people who use our services. We’re really proud of our #PennineCarePeople and do everything we can to make sure we’re a great place to work.
