We are actively seeking a clinically experienced Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP) who is enthusiastic about prescribing effectiveness and quality. The post holder will play a crucial part, as part of the organisations Community Mental Health Services.
Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service are able to present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.

The NMP Lead role has recently been acknowledged and recognised for the promotion of multi-disciplinary advanced practice, prescribing competence, quality, and safety.
This role is pivotal to community-based integrated service design and delivery, through links with the advanced practice development forums and via enhanced networking. The role will continue to lead a programme of specifically designed CPD, conferences and learning events.
This role may not be eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route.
Main duties of the job
The NMP Lead role is engaged and actively encouraged to share and provide expert prescribing knowledge and to contribute within a variety of Medicines Management related operational and clinical services and groups within Livewell Southwest, as well as across Devon incorporating the regional and national prescribing agenda.
Independent prescribing is one of the few national professionally annotated qualifications, and as such, the postholder will be able to continue to develop expertise build on education and learning services, to identify opportunities for NMPs, facilitate the selection of appropriate candidates for trust sponsored NMP course places and participate in the prescribing and learning agenda linking with local academic course providers and Universities. The NMP Lead role will also be expected to be an active supporter and facilitator of future trainee prescribers along with the expansion of Designated Prescribing Practitioners, assessors, clinical supervisors, within the wider medicines learning environment.
Please note, we will consider applications from staff who are willing to work towards a prescribing qualification. Applicants will be paid at a Band 6 level until they have successfully completed training.
All Livewell Southwest staff are expected to be able and willing to work across a 7 day service although this is currently a Monday to Friday 9-5 service.

Prescribing Responsibilities.
To work collaboratively with Service Users and the wider MDT to provide clinical management plans that support independent prescribing. As an NMP, work collaboratively with medical prescribers to communicate prescribing decisions, clinical rationales, and treatment plans. To receive mandatory supervision from the appropriate forums, including Medical Prescribers. To maintain and develop clinical and pharmaceutical knowledge relevant to area of practice. To review, diagnose and generate treatment options within the role of the non-medical prescriber, using recommended evidence-based assessments and outcome measures to evaluate care. To produce non-medical prescribing plans that are timely, relevant, accurate, evaluates, dated, signed, legible and objective and communicate these to other relevant agencies. These must be in keeping with best practice guidance e.g. NICE. Demonstrate decision-making and problem-solving skills as a non-medical prescriber. To access and attend NMP events and forums as per Livewell Southwest policy and Approval to Practice. To comply with the NMC Professional Code of Conduct and the NMC Standards for Prescribers. To be responsible for the safety and security of the FP10 prescription pad in accordance with Livewell Southwest policies and procedures. To maintain and update non-medical prescribing skills. Participate in relevant Prescribing audits and evaluations.
The Non-Medical Prescriber will understand the theory behind and value of therapeutic relationships and be a role model for widespread personalised care and shared decision making between clinicians and patients.
To maintain effective verbal and written communication with the clinical team and to keep staff informed of changes to prescribing intervention or treatment provided to service-users.
To work in partnership with medical staff and service-users in the development and implementation of clinical management plans related to an individual's treatment and prescribing needs.
To establish and maintain good liaison with key stakeholders in the individual's care e.g. GP practices and other services in the area, including sharing prescribing information and rationale.
Manage and prioritise a defined complex caseload of patients and delegate where appropriate.
Co-ordinate annual leave, study leave and duty rotas if required in absence of the Operational Team manager or as part of role if dual specialist / operational team manager.
Undertake the full range of people management tasks and responsibilities including recruitment, induction, retention, orientation communication, staff engagement, workforce planning, appraisal, training and development and performance management including disciplinary/grievance/sickness with support from operational leads, services managers, and or team leads.
Work with other team leads/advanced specialists to ensure clinical and operational management cover across services is maintained especially at times of service pressure.
Be aware of pressures facing your work colleagues and offer support to ensure they are aware of the organisation's support services available to them.
Act as a role model for all team members demonstrating and maintaining high standards of practice and professional leadership. Addressing issues of poor practice with senior line management and HR.
To support with student placement and training in line with Livewell Southwest policies.
Plan and participate in the supervision, teaching and provision of community experience for all nurses' learners and other personnel as appropriate.
