GSL Education is working with a brilliant secondary school in Gateshead to recruit a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant. In this vital role, you'll help students overcome barriers to learning, boost their confidence, and achieve their full potential.
About the Role:
You'll be supporting students with additional emotional and behavioural needs—both in class and during breakout sessions. Your day will involve helping pupils focus, regulating emotions, and engaging positively with school life.
✨ Key Responsibilities:
✔️ Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH needs
✔️ Assist with lesson delivery, adapting resources when needed
✔️ Monitor progress and feed back to teachers
✔️ Create a calm, structured environment for learning
✔️ Help students build self-regulation and resilience
✔️ Implement behaviour support strategies and interventions
✔️ Liaise with staff, families, and external support agencies
What We’re Looking For:
Relevant background in education, psychology, youth work or similar
Experience working with secondary-aged pupils with SEMH needs
Understanding of trauma-informed practice and behaviour support
Calm, nurturing, and patient nature
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to adapt in a dynamic school environment
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
