Our client is seeking a Senior Mechanical Support Engineer to take on a vital role within their Engineering team. This position is critical for providing technical expertise, ensuring engineering assurance, and driving the development of robust processes. In addition to managing their own engineering tasks, the Senior Mechanical Support Engineer will oversee and review team outputs. The successful candidate will contribute to achieving and exceeding customer expectations by delivering high-quality engineering solutions aligned with cost, safety, and OTIF (on-time, in full) targets. Key Responsibilities The Senior Mechanical Support Engineer will: Provide hands-on engineering support across a variety of tasks, including: Reviewing and approving Bills of Materials (BoM). Conducting condition assessments and preparing job packs. Managing engineering changes, concessions, FAIs, and overhaul project preparation. Investigating faults, diagnosing issues, and supporting warranty claims. Developing method statements, test procedures, and overhaul instructions. Designing tooling and conducting material analysis. Compiling and reviewing comprehensive engineering reports. Develop subject matter expertise in systems such as transmissions, couplers, cooler groups, and final drives. Take responsibility for individual deliverables and review outputs from the wider engineering team. Provide oversight on reverse and re-engineered mechanical components and systems. Support the Head of Engineering in maintaining and improving engineering standards. Mentor and support junior engineers and workshop technicians, fostering skills development and confidence. Assist with training initiatives to enhance team knowledge in safety, product expertise, and processes. Collaborate with purchasing and quality teams on supplier evaluation and selection. Skills and Qualifications The ideal candidate will: Hold an HNC/HND (or equivalent) in a mechanically focused engineering discipline. Have a minimum of 10 years of professional engineering experience, including: General engineering, reverse engineering, and testing. Problem-solving and technical investigation. Drafting method statements and overhaul instructions. Task management and condition assessments. Demonstrate knowledge of mechanical driveline and connecting systems (gearboxes, couplings, cooler groups), which would be advantageous. Show proficiency in CAD tools such as Siemens NX or Autodesk Inventor, which is desirable. Possess a strong understanding of technical drawings, including BS8888 standards.
