Role overview
As a Senior Account Manager, you play a crucial role in the agency’s digital marketing team. Your main responsibility is to oversee a portfolio of client accounts across SEO, PPC and paid social. The role involves devising digital strategies, alongside support from channel specialists, to ensure they deliver successful, measurable results. You will build strong relationships with clients and the team, set the example and drive high-performance. This position includes direct line management, and working closely with the Head of Marketing and Client Services Director on the application of marketing processes and client satisfaction.
Client strategy responsibilities
* Strategise SEO campaigns – including on and off page SEO tactics, technical strategy, KPI reporting. These tasks are completed by Specialists and Executives, your role is briefing the strategy, direction and ensuring the results meet the client brief and KPIs.
* Strategise paid search campaigns – such as Google, Bing, Search, Pmax, Shopping – as above, to brief and oversee delivery against the KPIs.
* Strategise paid social ad campaigns – Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitter etc – as above, to brief and oversee delivery against the KPIs.
* Leveraging technical tools to encourage campaign efficiencies e.g. Looker Studio, Shoptimise, Google Shopping integration, GA4 – utilising Specialists to complete the research and inform the process.
Senior support to Account Managers
* Overseeing a portfolio of client accounts that are managed day-to-day by a team of Account Managers. As part of this, maintaining oversight of the delivery and performance of those accounts, and supporting Account Managers as needed with troubleshooting, account performance and recommendations.
* Review upsell quotes shared with you by Account Managers.
* Support Account Managers with the direction of the quarterly/bi-annual review presentations, reviewing these PowerPoints, giving feedback and joining the meeting with the client.
* Driving client retention/contract renewals, upselling other services and maintaining client satisfaction levels.
* Oversee that the correct client tasks and hours have been planned in and assigned to the marketing team in Synergist, and that timely monthly planning is completed by Account Managers, and client time check-ins are taking place.
Senior account management responsibilities
* On larger accounts, maintaining touchpoints with your clients, joining and engaging in meetings – via phone, video or in-person.
* Lead review meetings, including quarterly and contract renewal presentations.
* Providing reports and analysis as required, including producing custom reports. Working with the wider team on the account to create these, by providing a clear brief and objectives for the reporting scope. QAing this before the client receives it.
* Analysing and making recommendations to improve campaign performance.
* Managing client budgets, including underspend and balancing POs vs spend.
Team management, support and training responsibilities
* You will be responsible for directly managing marketing team colleagues which includes 1-1s, progression and training.
* Oversee Account Managers with supporting the implementation team with their daily and weekly list management, and day-to-day task support.
Internal management responsibilities
* Leading daily and weekly team meetings, in rotation with other Senior Account Managers.
* Being prepared, contributing and setting an example to the rest of the Planning team.
* Working closely to support on operational processes to streamline company processes and improving agency efficiencies.
Support responsibilities to senior management
* Providing general management support to the Head of Marketing, Client Services Director and Directors, and working closely with them to leverage key accounts.
* Being the internal holiday/meeting cover for other Senior Account Managers and the Head of Marketing, and supporting/managing the team during absence.
Required Skills & Experience:
* Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in digital marketing, with at least 3 years in an Account Management/Director role at an agency.
* Leadership Abilities: Proven experience in managing team members and building a high-performance team.
* Client Services: Exceptional client management skills with the ability to build trust, communicate effectively, and resolve conflicts.
* Analytical Mindset: Strong data-driven approach to decision-making with the ability to interpret and leverage data for campaign optimisation and strategic planning.
* Working Style: Strong organisational and time management skills, proactive and solutions-focused. Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and problem-solving.
