An opportunity is available for a Sustainability Advisor to support the Sustainability Manager in driving our NGED (National Grid Electricity Distribution) business forward on sustainability issues and delivering our net-zero commitments. The successful candidate will help the business and our supply chain in implementing and delivering on NGEDs sustainability strategy and will deliver our sustainability reporting. You will also work with stakeholders to ensure our sustainability and net-zero strategies are up to date with external practices. We can offer flexibility on where the role is based (in one of our local depot offices). As part of our hybrid working approach this role offers a mix of office and home working. Evidence of your qualifications will be required prior to appointment. Depending on experience, you may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete. Main Responsibilities Delivering NGEDs Sustainability reporting Manage the provision, development and publication of Annual Environment Report and other Regulatory reporting Development of robust assurance and governance processes for sustainability metrics/KPIs/Commitments Provide insights on departmental and corporate performance data to help inform EDs sustainability strategy Advocacy/engagement/influencing Support the team in the development of ED3/future Business Plan and Environmental Action Plans, including stakeholder engagement Support engagement activities with external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies to ensure sustainability strategies and plans are leading and aligned with industry best practice Engage with sustainability professionals and practitioners across the business and other companies to facilitate knowledge and good practice transfers. Implementing Responsible Business Strategy Work with Group Sustainability to understand NGEDs role in delivering the Responsible Business Charter commitments and with NGED to implement those requirements Support the development of our carbon reduction strategy working with key stakeholders across the business Support the delivery of ED net zero commitments for Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, through the implementation of that strategy Support the business in understanding the impacts of climate change on our assets and develop plans to address them. Embedding and managing environmental/sustainability performance across the business Collaborate with colleagues across the business to communicate and implement ED’s Sustainability Strategy Support the development of business cases for low carbon and energy efficiency investment to support the sustainability strategy Develop and deploy tools, techniques and approaches into the business to support the sustainability strategy and delivery of external commitments. The Ideal Candidate Do you have excellent data management, report and procedure writing skills? We are looking for some who has the ability to integrate information effectively and summarise with relevance and suitable impact. The successful candidate will also need great interpersonal skills and the ability and confidence to communicate and build relationships with stakeholders at all levels. You will have a thorough knowledge of carbon and climate change, National Grid policy, procedure and best practice in relation to environment and sustainability, including how sustainability can help to achieve our objectives. To apply you will need to hold a suitable academic qualification at Degree or Higher Diploma level, in a subject such as Environmental, Climate Change or Sustainability. Ideally you will also be a member of a professional body. You must be willing to travel to our sites across the UK as required and therefore a full UK driving licence is required.
