Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The role involves rotation through the sections of the laboratory (blood transfusion, haematology and coagulation) providing service for our busy acute hospital. You will be responsible for providing high quality results while maintaining the standards of the HCPC and ISO 15189. You will be involved in training colleagues, and expected to fully participate in the 24/7 rota.

Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
1. An honours degree or equivalent in a biological science
2. HCPC Registration
3. Hold the IBMS Specialist Diploma in relevant discipline or equivalent experience
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
1. Proven experience post HCPC registration in the relevant discipline
2. Excellent working knowledge of specialist subject in relevant discipline
3. Evidence of continuing professional development
4. Knowledge of health and safety issues
5. Experience of quality management systems
Skills and Abilities
Essential criteria
1. Practical specialist analytical skills associated with diagnostic laboratory work
2. Competence in PC word processing, spreadsheet and database software
3. Accuracy and attention to detail
4. Able to follow written methodologies or protocols
5. Able to work as part of a team
6. Ability to work under pressure
7. Ability to plan and prioritise allocated work
8. Intermediate level of computer skills
9. Excellent communication and presentation skills
Other relevant requirements
Essential criteria
1. Participation and experience in out of hours working
2. Supervisory experience
3. Immucor and Sysmex analyser experience
