Whole Life Pathways - Supporting Mental Health
Are you an experienced Best Interest Assessor ready for a challenging and rewarding role that involves protecting the rights of vulnerable adults and ensuring their best interests are upheld? Then join our team and make a meaningful impact in the lives of those who need it most.
The Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and Mental Capacity Act Team facilitate the Council's ability to grant standard authorisations to care homes, nursing homes and hospital wards. The team acts as a source of support and advice to teams for matters regarding the Mental Capacity Act assessments and best interest decisions.
As a Best Interest Assessor, you will work as a part of a small, dedicated team and provide assessments for people resident in care homes and on behalf of Wiltshire's Clinical Commissioning Group, to establish whether deprivation of liberty is occurring or going to occur. Further responsibilities include carrying out DoLS assessments, maintaining comprehensive and accurate case records and undertaking a consultative role based on skills, experience and expertise. The assessment involves face to face discussion with the adult, evaluation of the care plan and assessment of the capacity of the adult to understand their needs.
Our ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years' experience as a Social Worker or Occupational Therapist with valid registration and must have a Best Interests Assessor qualification. You will have expert knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and related Code of Practice and an understanding of the relationship between the DOLS and safeguarding adult principles. To be successful in this role you must have the ability to keep appropriate records and provide clear reports in accordance with legal requirements and good practice and have the ability to obtain, evaluate and analyse complex evidence and weigh them appropriately in decision making.
If you have good knowledge of the social impact of disability, illness and injury on individuals and families and would like to be the person to make a difference, apply now.
