Permanent Workshop Service Engineer required for locally homegrown business based in Hillsborough. Job Purpose: Perform a variety of routine servicing, inspections (VOSA standards) and subsequent repairs to one or more types of Distribution Tractors and other vehicles/equipment. Perform visual or operational checks and carry out repairs as required. To carry out technical inspections or use technical manuals and diagnostic techniques to find and repair inoperable or defective machine parts, components or systems using test equipment. You will be required to undertake thorough inspections of accident damaged machines and produce accurate reports to enable repair. Observe all company and site Health & Safety requirements at all times. Duties will include: Display the highest standards of; appearance, manner and technical ability at all times. Accurately and quickly fault diagnose and undertake resultant repairs. To include working on a range of makes and models. Ability to undertake vehicle servicing, repair and other related work. Complete all vehicle servicing and repair documentation correctly, in a timely manner and to a good standard. Ability to interpret and remedy vehicle defect descriptions communicated by vehicle users or planning team. Willing to assist colleagues in the execution of their jobs as required. There will be an element of manual handling involved. Work with all departments, particularly with projects that are being explored or implemented. Undertake any other duties consistent with the purpose of this job or to support the needs of the business. Where possible ensure a first-time fix. Maintain a high standard of customer service at all times. Develop own competence to meet requirements of job. Maintain and develop current processes and procedures in the upkeep of the internal documentation. Essential Criteria: City & Guilds Level 3 Vehicle Mechanical and Electronic Systems Maintenance and Repair Qualification or equivalent qualification. Knowledge of latest diagnostic systems. Substantial experience in Auto Electrician fault diagnosis and resultant repairs, including the use of electronic diagnostic equipment to include working experience of a range of heavy goods / specialist vehicle. Valid driving licence Flexible approach to work. Ability to work to tight deadlines, under pressure and with a sense of urgency. Communications skills, both verbal and in writing, together with the ability to communicate at all levels Knowledge of current road traffic law i.e. speed limits, van weight restrictions, drivers hours etc. Ensure high standards of preventative maintenance and repairs are actioned in line with manufacturers recommendations/instructions and our Safe System of Work procedures. Interpersonal skills and the ability to develop strong working relationships. Ability to manage own workload independently prioritise tasks. Self-motivational with the ability to challenge the status quo, and research and offer suggestions for problem solving.
