Your new role, what's involved?
Our Arboriculture team is involved in the survey of trees and planning their integration in a variety of new projects, ensuring their viability, health, and sustainability for the future. We work on a diverse range of projects, from urban tree assessment and management to forestry assessments, providing valuable contributions to a variety of sustainability projects, environmental conservation, and public well-being.
As an Apprentice in our team, you will have the opportunity to:
1. Assist in conducting tree surveys and assessments, helping to identify and catalogue tree species, health conditions, and potential risks.
2. Support the preparation of reports and recommendations for the integration of trees in new development design projects, learn and contribute to the role of the Arboriculturist in tree management, collaborate with senior consultants to develop effective strategies to retain trees or mitigate their removal.
3. Take part in regular team training and collaborative days with other consultants in the industry.
You will be a full-time, permanent employee, getting paid while working on exciting, real-world projects from day one. With support from your experienced team and dedicated buddy, you’ll gain hands-on experience in an inspiring environment. You will be equipped with the most sophisticated design tools, exploring fresh, new ways to design and build for our future, using the latest software, gaining technical experience while you learn on the job.
You’ll start your apprenticeship in September 2025, attending a local college for either one day per week or block placement, gaining a full undergraduate degree in your chosen subject. Typically, the Higher Apprenticeship takes between 2-3 years to complete (including End Point Assessment in England).
Our dedicated Early Careers team will work closely with you over the course of your apprenticeship to support and plan a development pathway that suits you. We also work together with local colleges to make sure you are getting the best out of your apprenticeship.
As an Apprentice with WSP, you will feel a sense of belonging in an environment where everyone feels respected and valued. We want you to be your true authentic self at work and be inspired, learn, discover, and feel empowered in your career.
"At WSP, I have experienced an environment of inclusivity, challenge and a true sense of belonging.”
Katelyn, Undergraduate Transport Planner, currently on the Degree Apprenticeship.

Please note: candidates must complete the application form in full, answering all specified questions. This requirement applies to all candidates, inclusive of their background. Successful completion of this stage is mandatory. Candidates who pass this initial stage will then be required to complete an online behavioural assessment. Both the application form and the behavioural assessment are essential parts of our early career’s recruitment process.
What is the process?
Submit Application: We do not require you to submit a CV to apply; instead, you will need to complete a short online application form. You’ll receive a confirmation email within 48 hours of submitting your application.
Online Behavioural Assessment: If you meet our eligibility requirements and we have a role that matches your chosen preferences, you will be sent an online behavioural assessment to complete by our partner, Arctic Shores. To learn more about the assessment please visit Support For Candidates | Arctic Shores.
Assessment Centre or Interview: Next, a shortlist of candidates will be created by our hiring managers and those people will be invited to an assessment centre or face-to-face interview within 8 weeks of the initial application. Please note, with the volume of applications we receive not all candidates who are successful at the online assessment can proceed to the interview stage.
Please note, the process can take up to 12 weeks in total if you’re an early applicant. We will aim to keep you informed throughout the time that your application is being considered; however, due to the volume of applications received, we are not able to respond to individual requests for status updates.
