Band 6 Physiotherapist, fixed term until 28th July 2026, 37.5 hours a week, Chelsea based.
Main duties of the job
1. The Band 6 Physiotherapist is an active member of a team that provides a high quality; evidence based physiotherapy service for the patient with cancer.
2. The post holder will rotate through a number of specialist units providing high quality physiotherapy care to both in and out-patients
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
3. Provide a holistic, advanced, physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with a cancer diagnosis. These patients may present with complex physical, emotional and psychological needs as a result of their cancer diagnosis and its treatment with surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
4. Provide a physiotherapeutic diagnosis, to develop and deliver individualised treatment programmes and make appropriate referrals to other disciplines.
5. Hold responsibility for a defined clinical area and own caseload, working without direct supervision. Access to advice and support from senior physiotherapists is available, clinical work is not routinely evaluated by senior staff. Supervision with a designated physiotherapist takes the form of formal training, reflective practice and clinical reasoning.

Essential criteria
6. Diploma/degree level qualification in physiotherapy
7. Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy or have alternative indemnity arrangements
8. HCPC Registered Physiotherapist
9. Evidence of on-going personal/professional development through maintenance of CPD portfolio
Experience
Essential criteria
10. Demonstrable knowledge in core physiotherapy skills
11. Rotational experience in respiratory, neurology, orthopaedics and musculo-skeletal conditions
12. Knowledge/Experience in the treatment of patients with cancer
13. Relevant teaching/supervision experience

14. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, carers, physiotherapy colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team
15. Ability to show tact and to manage boundaries
16. Able to work without direct supervision
17. Ability to make decisions, organise and prioritise

19. Ability to work in a stressful environment and recognise the additional stresses of patients/carers dealing with a cancer diagnosis
20. Ability to keep accurate and legible patient notes
21. Awareness of current NHS issues
22. Computer literate (e.g. Microsoft words and Outlook

Flu Vaccination – What We Expect of our Staff
At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.
The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
