Job Overview
Working on a day-to-day basis with Officers and Staff to ensure the Company’s compliance with relevant applicable regional, national and EU environmental and waste related legislation, regulatory consents and internal procedures.

SkipsRUs Ltd was established in 2008 as a family run business and has developed into one of Northern Ireland’s premier waste management companies, treating up to 75,000tpa of a range of commercial, industrial, municipal and construction, demolition and excavations wastes, and has built its reputation on an unrivalled level of customer service and continues to enjoy year on year growth.
Initially specialising in skip hire, the business rapidly evolved and continues to evolve to offer a comprehensive, innovative, and cost-effective range of waste management and recycling services to public bodies, commercial and private customers within Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, including the collection, recycling and redistribution of a large variety of waste streams and waste-derived End of Waste products. Whilst its expertise covers a wide range of waste types and streams, SkipsRUs Ltd specialises in the treatment and recovery of construction, demolition and excavation wastes.
Skips-R-Us has and continues to diversify and improve its treatment technologies and practices to ensure waste recycling and recovery rates are maximised, with business and operational planning at an advanced stage for the deployment of a bespoke wet-based treatment plant in 2021 that will enable SkipsRUs Ltd to further increase waste treatment, recovery, reuse rates and enhance its production of Quality Protocol, End of Waste products.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting directly to Company Officers, the primary purpose of the role will be to ensure the Company’s day-to-day compliance with the following
Conditions contained in the facility's
o Planning permissions.
o Waste Management Licence
Requirements of:
o The Waste Collection Permit issued by the National Waste Collection Permit Office (NWCPO).
o Trans frontier Shipment of Waste (‘TFS’, administered by the National TFS Office (Dublin City Council) and the DAERA (NI) NIEA).
The role will also involve:
· Research, develop and implement procedures, including preparing End of Waste applications, to produce non-waste products/materials derived from incoming waste streams.
· Ensuring compliance with current NI and RoI legislation applicable to the transportation, handling, treatment and disposal of waste.
· Preparation and submission of waste data/returns to relevant N.I. and RoI competent authorities.
· Periodically organising, taking and submitting samples of waste and environmental media for laboratory analysis, and review/ evaluation of results against relevant assessment criteria.
· Daily and other routine planned and reactive walkover inspections of the Facility and its immediate surrounds, its infrastructure, fixed and mobile plant and equipment.
· Occasional liaison with appointed external (e.g., planning, environmental) consultants and advisors.
· Preparing compliance reports (interpreted data, statistics) for Company Officers/ internal Management Team and implementing compliance-related recommendations.
· Assisting Officers in identifying and responding to business opportunities e.g. assisting in the preparation of tender submissions.
· Compliance with applicable Health and Safety legislation and standards.
- Maintaining and updating the company training matrix while carrying out internal training for safe systems of work and toolbox talks etc.
- Assist the company officers to continue to achieve ISO management system certification and suggest continual improvements to operations.
- Ensuring Company H&S policies, risk assessments and procedures are kept up to date.
Criteria
A HND or degree in waste management or another relevant subject (see below) is desirable but not essential:
· Biological or biochemical sciences
· Chemical and Physical sciences
· Civil, structural or mechanical engineering
· Earth sciences
· Environmental science

· Geography and/or geology
Entry may be possible without holding a tertiary qualification in the above subject areas, or without a tertiary qualification, subject to you being able to successfully demonstrate a minimum of 2 years gained in a similar Compliance role within the waste and resources management sector.
· Proficiency in MS Office products- essential.
· Excellent organisational, presentational and communication skills- essential.
· Proficient in English language (spoken and written)- essential.
· Full Driving Licence – essential.
· Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise to meet deadlines- essential.
· Strong team player with flexible attitude to take on ad hoc work/ work independently and intuitively- essential.
· On occasion, may be required to work beyond contracted hours e.g., to complete tasks, meet deadlines- desirable.
