Where you will be working
The Dean Neurological Centre has 60 beds in Gloucester (GL2 9EE), on the outskirts of town, within easy commute from Gloucester, Cheltenham, and surrounding villages.
The Centre provides specialist 24-hour nursing and therapy services for people with complex long-term neurological conditions requiring ongoing support to maximize functional ability.
It specializes in slow stream rehabilitation, emphasizing maximizing each individual's abilities, comfort, and quality of life.
Facilities include bedrooms fitted with high dependency equipment, ceiling track hoists, wall-mounted suction and oxygen equipment, all adapted to individual needs. There are well-equipped therapy facilities, gardens, a gym, and a minibus.
You will lead group therapy sessions, helping people develop and improve their speech and communication. Building rapport with service users, you will encourage engagement and empower recovery. You will manage a caseload, conducting assessments, planning and implementing interventions, and evaluating outcomes aligned with care plans.
With a strong emphasis on teamwork, you will receive support from a regional network of healthcare professionals and access to various training courses to support your career development.
As a Speech and Language Therapist you will be:
* Demonstrating specialist skills in managing complex cases, cultural and linguistic differences, and developing appropriate strategies.
* Undertaking audits and contributing to research related to treatments.
* Possessing specialist knowledge in areas such as acquired communication and swallowing disorders.
To be successful, you'll need:
* HCPC registration
* Experience managing a caseload involving assessment and treatment of dysphagia
* Experience working with families
* Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
