Support/Care Assistant for a young person F/T @ £12.00/hr near Faversham - FTE - £0 - Faversham - ME13
I am a 23-year-old full-time wheelchair user. I am very sporty when my health allows. I play wheelchair rugby, do WCMX (wheelchair motor cross), athletics, and weather permitting, park runs. I am interested in art, enjoy visiting galleries, and have my own art projects. I volunteer at an animal park two mornings a week, where I am well supported, but occasionally may need transport to and from there.
Due to my health needs and levels of pain and fatigue, I am looking for someone who is driven, kind, and has a good sense of humour. Candidates will need to be able to work independently to support me if I am unwell.
I live in a rural location with limited public transport that is not wheelchair accessible. Being able to drive me to activities and appointments is essential.
It is the job of my Personal Assistant to assist in meeting my personal, social, and domestic needs as a disabled person, and any other day-to-day requirements or activities. This assistance will help me lead an individual, independent, and active life in my own home, work, and community.
As my Personal Assistant, you should be able to handle the physical tasks of lifting, handling, pushing, and bending. While you do not need to be physically strong to perform certain tasks well, good general health is beneficial.
Responsibilities
* Communicate and discuss any problems that arise as soon as possible.
* Respect my privacy and maintain a professional approach at all times, treating your working relationship as confidential.
* Understand and be mindful of my right to dignity, respect, and independence.
* Respect my possessions and equipment.
Training
As you will be meeting my personal needs, most assistance required will be learned through us working together. However, where required, practical training and guidance can be provided.
Work Hours
Up to 15 hours per week, to be spread over three days. I can be flexible with days and times and am happy for this to be a shared role.
Key Responsibilities
All tasks are to be carried out with dignity, respect, and in a person-centred manner.
Health and Well Being
* Be conscious of my health and well-being (including fluctuations in my physical capacity) at all times.
* Remind me to have food and drinks throughout the day.
* Provide medication reminders.
Domestic Tasks
I will need support with:
* Changing bedding.
* Washing and ironing of clothes.
* Food preparation and cooking.
* Tidying the kitchen and supporting with washing up after cooking and meals.
* Shopping (this may involve taking me to a shop or helping me with online shopping).
* Tidying and vacuuming my room.
* Helping to clean and maintain wheelchairs and equipment.
Social Tasks
* Support with sporting activities: wheelchair rugby, WCMX, athletics, and park runs.
* Support to attend art galleries and workshops.
* Assist me in meeting with friends (you do not always have to stay with me, but be on call if I need help).
* Assist with transport and ensure the correct insurance is held.
All applicants must be eligible to live and work in the UK and have a full driving licence. Successful applicants will be subject to a DBS check with no criminal record.
