Head of Department - Shipwright
Main Responsibilities:
1. Accountable for safety, people, quality, productivity.
2. Actively and enthusiastically manage staff through effective leadership and positive communication.
3. Drive productivity & efficiency utilising Department to its full capability.
4. Responsible for the coordination of their respective resource teams in reaction to Production & Program demand, ensuring teams are maintained as required.
5. Co-ordinating dry dockings and regulations as part of the role.
6. Provides daily/weekly reports to Marine Operations Manager.
7. Maintains records of all work activities and support materials.
8. Adopt a continuous improvement ethos and be innovative.
9. Will be actively involved in all aspects of HR management for their department and supporting other Head of Departments.
10. Monitor performance, outputs & adjust as necessary.
11. Be commercially aware.
12. Be aware of Company codes, accreditations and standards and hold an understanding of each (i.e. ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO18001).
13. Responsible and accountable for the departmental adherence of QA/QC procedures, regulations and strictly enforces them with the workforce under his/her responsibility.
14. Is responsible and accountable for ensuring that all work under their control is carried out in accordance with company OH&S Management System.
15. Accountable for conducting regular inspections of work areas to identify and eliminate hazardous conditions and practices.
Your skills and qualifications as a HoD:
Essential:
1. Experience in regulating and dry docking of various vessels.
2. Experience in dockings and undockings in the same type of dry docks.
3. Excellent command of the English language, both verbally and in writing.
4. Must be able to spend up to 90% of the time in an outdoor shipyard environment in all climates.
5. NAVSEA or DM consulting Certified Dock master.
6. Experience in maintenance and repair of Marine Vessels with an understanding of Planned Maintenance Systems.
7. To support the Estates and Facilities teams in preventative maintenance, upkeep and improvement of our dock's workshops and offices where trade skills overlap and complement the requirements.
8. Manage in detail storage and stock control of all docking and regulation materials (timbers, ropes, equipment etc).
Desirable:
1. An understanding of Classification Society Rules.
2. Experience in supporting Vessel Docking/Maintenance Periods.
