Wildlife Education Officer

We have an exciting opportunity for a Wildlife Education Officer with a qualification in an animal-related subject or relevant experience to join our Wildlife and Conservation Park here at our York campus. This role will be working on a summer seasonal contract, working a 5-hour day over our busiest period, from the end of June until the end of August for 10 weeks. The role covers 7 days a week, which can be split amongst the successful candidates.
We are seeking an individual who will be responsible for creating a positive visitor experience, front of house duties, visitor engagement, animal talks, and experiences for our visitors to the park. Sector experience and knowledge specifically in Wildlife Conservation will be beneficial.
The successful candidate will:
1. Be a welcoming face at front of house and help to run our educational events throughout the year.
2. Host schools/groups and public talks.
3. Assist with social media content and input ideas for educational interpretation.
4. Deliver excellent animal experiences for our guests.
Educated to a level 2 or above (relevant experience will also be considered), with excellent knowledge of wildlife conservation and animal welfare. This is a great opportunity for those looking for more experience or between studying in a gap year.
All tasks are to be carried out in a consistent manner with the corporation’s culture.
Additional responsibilities include:
1. Assisting the Education Conservation Coordinator in delivering our conservation message and education strategy.
2. Providing excellent customer service to all visitors to the wildlife park.
3. Delivering excellent educational workshops to schools.
4. Being a confident public speaker and delivering presentations to all audiences.
5. Delivering animal encounters and engagement to a high standard and following protocols.
6. Ensuring that visitor areas are well maintained.
7. Managing visitor admissions, gift shop sales, and other visitor product sales on a day-to-day basis.
8. Being self-driven and developing skills in all areas within the Education department.
