About the role
The Mechanical Support Manager will be responsible for the operation, maintenance and repairs of all mechanical assets and tools with the Syria programme and will manage MAG’s fleet and generators. This includes heavy machinery management. The successful candidate will also conduct training, assessment and monitoring of all staff utilising the excavators, front end loaders and backhoes in order to build a local capacity for humanitarian mine action activities. Overall, this role will be responsible for assisting the Technical Operations Manager to provide the mechanical support to clearance operations and achieve maximum productivity in the team and capacity of all mechanical assets for the programme.
About you
You must be a qualified plant and heavy goods vehicle mechanic and have experience in managing and operating multiple mechanical assets across different locations. Experience of conducting Operational Field Evaluations with regards to Mechanical Prime Movers Attachments and Processing Units and of integrated clearance methodologies is essential. The successful candidate will also need to have experience managing and capacity building local staff and in designing and delivering training in the repair and maintenance of fleet and other machinery.
We are looking for a dynamic, pragmatic, and flexible individual who has the ability to find creative solutions to issues that arise and experience of providing technical expertise to improve systems and procedures which maximise operational efficiency. Whilst experience in mine action is ideal, the post holder will need to have experience of working in a developing country and have an understanding of the constraints this imposes. Arabic language skills are not essential but would be beneficial.

1. Salary : £60,856 per annum including all allowances and this increases with service.
2. Accommodation: MAG will provide accommodation in-country.
3. Leave : We recognise our staff work hard and need the appropriate time out to stay motivated. You'll have a minimum of six weeks out of the programme per year.
4. Flights : MAG provides four international flights home per year
5. Insurance : Programme based staff are automatically covered by MAG's comprehensive insurance package including: Personal accident and medical expenses insurance; Death by natural causes insurance and access to 24-hour medical assistance.
MAG will support the successful applicant with any visa or work permit required, including application, administration and costs, however applicants will need to be able to obtain these within a reasonable time period to be considered for the role, due to programme needs.
