Overview
In September 2023, the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Social Care and NHS recovery announced a Public Inquiry into the actions of former neurosurgeon Mr Eljamel and NHS Tayside, with Lord Weir appointed as Chair in February 2024.
A team is being assembled to support Lord Weir in establishing the Inquiry. The role involves developing communication strategies for the Inquiry, raising awareness, managing digital and media presence, and supporting consultation on draft Terms of Reference.
The successful candidate will also handle media planning, maintain relationships with media outlets, and support media engagement efforts for the Inquiry. Flexibility and strong interpersonal skills are essential, as the role's requirements will evolve over time.
The earliest start date is October 2024, subject to confirmation.
Responsibilities
1. Develop communication strategies for the Inquiry.
2. Manage the Inquiry website and content, collaborating with external contractors.
3. Oversee digital and social media channels.
4. Assist with consultation on draft Terms of Reference.
5. Provide media insights and advice to Inquiry members.
6. Coordinate with media networks, respond to inquiries, and establish a credible media presence.
7. Collaborate with colleagues and contractors on media activities and investigation logistics.

Location and Working Arrangements
The Inquiry offices are in Edinburgh, with some work in NHS Tayside. Hybrid working is expected, requiring in-person attendance as needed.
