Project Manager - Engineering Based on site in Chelmsford Salary £60,000 - £65,000 Position Summary & Responsibilities Our client is recruiting for a Project Manager to join their project management team based in Chelmsford. The role will revolve around overseeing strategic research and development and customer-funded projects. Your responsibilities will encompass driving existing projects, delivering products to customers, and achieving revenue targets through the effective leadership of a cross-functional team comprising more than 10 engineers and technical staff. This role is primarily product-oriented and includes project management diversification and occasional involvement in bid activities. Eligibility for Security Clearance and UK National status is a prerequisite for this position. In this role, you will be accountable for: Guiding cross-functional teams of engineers and manufacturing personnel to ensure project delivery on time, within budget, and meeting quality standards. Consistently applying effective project management techniques and demonstrating adherence to project management processes. Leading by example, imparting the skills to meet targets, and mentoring junior team members. Cultivating robust relationships with customers and internal stakeholders, ensuring clear communication, understanding, and execution of goals and objectives. Meticulously scheduling projects in Microsoft Project and integrating them into the MS Project Server system. Establishing suitable reviews for projects and ensuring their timely execution. Ensuring the clear understanding, documentation, and management of project scope with customers, whether external or internal. Identifying project risks, issues, and dependencies, proactively seeking resolution before escalation. Collaborating with the Finance Team to set and monitor budgets. Compiling project dashboards and presenting project status updates to the Senior Leadership Team on a monthly basis. Collaborating with Business Development, Engineering, and Programme Directors to devise technical and commercial solutions to meet customer requirements. Contributing to the enhancement of project management processes. Qualifications To excel in this role, you are likely to possess the following skills and experience: Extensive experience in managing engineering projects throughout some or all stages of their lifecycle, with a particular focus on production. Demonstrated ability to inspire teams to meet critical timelines and deliver projects successfully. Proficiency in managing customer expectations and preventing scope creep. A strong grasp of risk management and its application in project management. Persuasive and clear communication skills, applicable to all levels of the organisation. Strong problem-solving capabilities. Sound judgment, knowing when to take ownership and when to escalate issues. Competency in the use and understanding of Project Management and resource tools, such as MS Project, MS Project Server, or similar enterprise project management tools. Working knowledge of SAP would be advantageous. A qualification in project management methodologies is desirable. Eligibility for or possession of Security Clearance and UK National status.
