Key Responsibilities:
* Ensure the lawns are maintained to a high standard including fertiliser applications.
* Carry out routine maintenance of all lawns.
* Occasionally assist the grounds team for large events.
* Upkeep of pathways, sweeping, blowing and gritting when icy.
* Carry out weed control and turf pest and disease control as required.
* Carry out general upkeep and movement of sport equipment, to include football, rugby and hockey goals, cricket cages and covers.
* Upkeep of shrub and flower beds. Create seasonal planting.
* Assist with repairing and replacing of fences around the school.
* Assist with the routine maintenance and washing down of machinery.
* Carry out Chainsaw work as requested by the Head Gardener.
* Ensure the grounds are kept to a high standard of cleanliness.
* Carry out general gardening tasks when required. Weeding, edging, planting, and leaf clearance.
* Upkeep of hedges and trees.
Health and Safety:
* Be fully conversant with machine operation instructions.
* Be aware of fire emergency procedures and fire muster points.
* Ensure correct Protective Personal Clothing (PPE) is used.
* Be fully aware of COSHH regulations when dealing with hazardous chemicals.
* To attend training in order to fulfil the Job Description.
* To be fully conversant with departmental Risk Assessments.
Other Duties:
* Observe health and safety procedures and always work safely.
* Be responsible for your own continuing self-development, undertaking training as appropriate to the working environment and location, and developments in your role.
* The post holder may be reasonably required to perform duties other than those given in the job description for the post. The duties and responsibilities attached to posts may vary from time to time without changing the character of the duties or the level of the responsibility entailed.
* Conduct yourself with professionalism, tact and diplomacy always as a representative of the school in line with School procedures.
The Salary: £26,769.00 per annum
The Hours: This is a full-time role, working 40 hours per week. There will be a rota to work weekends during the summer term.
About You:
With a proactive and ‘can do’ approach, you will be joining the wider grounds team to deliver and maintain a high standard for the grounds. You will have previous experience in general gardening; sports turf management would be highly advantageous, along with a chainsaw license. However, further training can be provided to the right candidate. Owing to location, own transport is required.
