Job Summary
Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LPFT) is rated as an outstandingly well-led Trust by the CQC and is committed to innovation and transformation. To bolster our efforts and continue to provide high quality, patient focussed services, we are seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to join the Perinatal team, as part of our Adult Community division. We are looking for a consultant who is passionate and committed to the development of perinatal psychiatry and who is able to support the county-wide service in caring for pregnant or postpartum women, who have, or are at high risk of developing a severe mental illness.
The role is part-time at 8PAs per week, with an additional PA paid as a recruitment and retention allowance. We are interested in hearing from anyone who is interested in a flexible working pattern, which would include job share, however, due to the nature of the role there is limited scope for remote working. A key part of this role is carrying out home visits and it is crucial that the postholder is able to travel independently across the county as public transport is very limited.
Main Duties of the Job
* The post holder will provide medical leadership alongside the existing Perinatal Consultant Psychiatrist and will undertake specialist assessment, diagnosis and treatment of women in the perinatal period including preconception and up to a year postnatal with follow up to 2 years where there is an identified perinatal need.
* Understand the prediction, detection and management of mental disorders in pregnant and post-natal women, the inter-relationship between mental disorder and pregnancy and the postpartum period, and the wider effects of mental disorder on child development and the mother-infant relationship.
* Diagnose and formulate management plans in complex cases, including decisions on prescribing in pregnancy and breastfeeding in women who plan a pregnancy.
* Provide prescribing advice on psychotropic medication in pregnancy and breastfeeding as well as women planning a pregnancy to general psychiatry, maternity and primary care services.
* Develop partnerships between agencies involved in the care of pregnant and postnatal women who experience mental disorder, including primary care, health visiting, maternity services, child care social work, general psychiatry and the voluntary sector.
* Design and deliver training packages on awareness, prevention, and detection of perinatal mental health disorders to meet the needs of local maternity, primary care, social services and other psychiatric colleagues.
* Conduct audit and if desired, research within the perinatal context.
