Role Overview
As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will be responsible for optimizing the performance of manufacturing operations through the delivery of quality, delivery, and efficiency improvements using continuous improvement and lean techniques. You will:
1. Determine the optimal manufacturing methods and processes for producing company products from start-up, building the product line, and through satisfactory production.
2. Analyze engineering design documents to establish manufacturing methods and processes.
3. Create conceptual sketches and initiate the design and building of required tooling.
The role is full-time and is based at our manufacturing facilities in St Ives, Cambridgeshire. You will also engage with our sister company’s remote manufacturing partners in China, USA, and Brazil.
Typical Day Responsibilities
A typical day will look like:
1. Driving process and component quality improvements within manufacturing cells to improve FTPR (First Time Pass Rate).
2. Assessing components and processes to identify causes of failure and providing feedback to Manufacturing, Engineering, and Suppliers to drive improvement.
3. Designing and implementing tooling, jigs, fixtures, test equipment, and improved processes.
4. Driving Lean Manufacturing principles using the Veralto Enterprise System (VES) Kaizen toolset.
5. Leading Manufacturing Engineering projects to improve safety, quality, and productivity.
6. Supporting change initiatives across manufacturing.
7. Identifying, installing, and commissioning new plant and equipment to meet the business's changing product and process needs.
You will be a flexible teammate who thrives in a busy manufacturing environment and enjoys a varied workday. The role is often hands-on, implementing proactive equipment maintenance or working on equipment or part problems in the manufacturing cells, so excellent practical abilities are essential. You should be a creative problem solver, with the ability to take ideas through to implementation, and able to analyze and make decisions based on data.
Essential Requirements
For this role, you should possess the following:
1. Experience in a manufacturing/operations/engineering role.
2. A demonstrated ability to design and create mechanical solutions.
3. Evidence of excellent practical skills.
4. Some knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
5. An understanding of electrical engineering principles and/or electronics would be beneficial.
This role may suit a Maintenance Engineer looking for their next challenge or a Design Engineer who wants to get involved in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
