We are looking to recruit an Assistant Management Accountant to join the team based at Parkhouse, Carlisle.
The post holder will contribute to an effective budgetary control and forecasting service to the Trust, and will provide assistance and advice to budget holders in managing their budgets through regular meetings, provide support in identifying potential efficiencies and responding to queries from budget holders.
The post holder will regularly liaise with budget holders to identify and understand the reasons for any variances in expenditure and income against budget.
The post holder will contribute to the preparation of accurate and timely monthly management accounts by preparing and posting journals for budgets and income and expenditure, and ensuring that appropriate prepayments and accruals are included in the Trust's Income and Expenditure account. The post holder will ensure that financial information is processed in accordance with DoH, NHSI and Trust policies and guidance.
The post holder will be expected to work on their own initiative by planning and organising their workload in order to meet monthly timetable deadlines.
Starting salary dependent upon experience and training needs (Band 4-5 or Annex 21).
Main duties of the job
You will have a good background in Finance, preferably AAT qualified, and be adept at using a range of finance and information systems and be proficient in the use of MS Excel. You will need good communication skills to discuss income issues with a range of staff.
The role will include:
* Assisting in Financial Planning and Performance
* Supporting the production of month-end and year-end reporting
* Raising accounts receivable invoices
* Regular meetings with budget holders

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Certificate level/Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) member, or demonstrable experience of successfully performing a substantially similar role to degree level
* Good general education including Maths and English at GCSE level or equivalent
* Actively studying towards higher CCAB/CIMA qualification
* ECDL or equivalent.
Knowledge
* Developed specialist knowledge of financial management in a healthcare/commercial environment
* Computerised ledger systems.
* Good knowledge of Microsoft Office
* Expert knowledge of accounting concepts, e.g. accruals, prepayments, debtors and creditors.
* Understanding of internal financial control systems.
* Demonstrable knowledge of technical accounting issues, e.g. VAT
* Advanced Excel skills
Experience
* Preparation of complex written and numeric reports.
* Undertaking financial analysis.
* Significant practical financial management experience, including budget setting, management reporting and variance analysis.
* Working effectively in a team and on own initiative
* Application of accounting standards
* Management Accounting experience, particularly within the NHS
* Self-motivated, proactive and flexible.
* Ability to use initiative appropriately.
