This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week across two sites: Spire Parkway Hospital and Spire Little Aston Hospital (Sutton Coldfield). The Health and Safety Officer will support line managers to ensure that working practices are established so that employees, contractors, and volunteers who visit or work at the facility do so in a safe and healthy environment, in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Management of the Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999. Spire Parkway Hospital in Solihull, West Midlands offers a comprehensive range of private hospital services. Our hospital is rated Good by the CQC for all parts of the inspection except for Patient Care, which is rated Outstanding. The report states, “Staff treated patients with compassion and kindness, respected their privacy and dignity, took account of their individual needs, and helped them understand their conditions. They provided emotional support to patients, families, and carers.” Our dedicated hospital team is passionate about excellent patient care and we offer a range of specialist treatments to patients across Birmingham, Warwickshire, and the West Midlands. This includes diagnostic services, rehabilitation, cutting-edge surgical procedures, and excellence in specialist fields like orthopaedics, women’s health, and cancer care. We have 51 bedrooms and five operating theatres. Contract: Permanent Hours: Full-time Duties and responsibilities Responsible as the H&S Officer for the oversight of the day-to-day management of health and safety across the hospital through support and guidance. Advising the Hospital Director, Senior Management Team, and the hospital Health and Safety Committee on general health and safety matters, seeking information from the appropriate Group specialists or retained consultants, as necessary. Assisting in risk assessments for the premises and activities, the use of computer workstations, manual handling activities, and the use of hazardous materials. Ensuring the fire safety risk assessment requirements are implemented, involving training and drills. Obtaining and reviewing materials safety data sheets for dangerous substances used on the premises. Planning and implementing the Business Continuity Plan drills and scenarios. Involvement in renovation/construction projects to ensure compliance with health and safety management. Monitoring health and safety standards of contract work undertaken on the hospital premises. Attending company-wide health and safety update meetings. Monitoring quarterly AMAT health and safety audits to ensure compliance. Who we're looking for: Good standard of secondary education with demonstrable literacy and numeracy skills. IOSH Managing Safely / IOSH Working Safely course NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (or willingness to undertake qualification) Professional Membership within Health and Safety / Risk Management Track record of successful people and process management, ideally in a multi-functional environment Previous experience working in the healthcare industry or a similar customer-oriented organization.
