Job Advert
Vacancy ID: 33495
We are looking for positive, compassionate and caring Relief Support Workers to join our team in Haywards Heath where we support three people in supported living who have profound and multiple learning disabilities, autism, sensory impairment, and physical disabilities.
The people within the service have a busy schedule and love to be out and about but will require support when going out in the community. The adults we support enjoy a variety of hobbies and activities. We use a dynamic approach to enable the people we support to communicate through alternative tools and methods, such as using Makaton or a photo translation book.
As a Support Worker, flexibility is key for both yourself and for the service. You may be required to work a variety of different shifts throughout the week, including mornings, evenings, sleep-ins, and weekends (Payment for sleep-ins is compliant and competitive with the national living wage). The best thing about flexibility is that it's a two-way street; while we may require that you work a variety of shifts, we also understand that you’ll have your own commitments and will try to factor this into our rotas.
You must be able to demonstrate a real commitment to Mencap and the work that we do, alongside the wonderful people we support. We are looking for people with a ‘can-do’ attitude who are strongly motivated, outgoing, caring, and have a calm demeanor when needed.
What does a Support Worker do?
As a Support Worker, you will be expected to provide an outstanding level of support that will help to ensure the people we support live a more comfortable, dignified, liberated, and happy life. You will have excellent communication skills and be a naturally caring and patient personality. Typical responsibilities may include:
* Supporting people to live independently – budget management, paying bills, housework, organizing appointments, and cooking delicious healthy meals.
* Excellent communication skills and Relationship building – supporting the people we support to understand the world around them and promoting positive relationships.
* Community & Social Inclusion - supporting individuals to access and participate in their local community and social events to promote life skills and individuality.
* Personal care - helping people to get ready for the day. This may include prompting the people we support to take their medication and assisting with bathing, showering, and using the bathroom. Not all Support Worker roles include high levels of personal care.
*All roles are subject to an enhanced DBS check and suitable references.
Benefits
As well as knowing that what we do is making a positive difference to people’s lives, you will receive fair pay and have access to a wide range of rewards and benefits as one of our employees.
* Flexibility to work the hours you choose
* Discounts and cashback from 3% to 30% at high street shops including major supermarkets, cinemas, gyms, leisure/theme parks, holidays, and much more via Mencap Extras
* Annual leave entitlement based on hours accrued
* Opportunity to purchase a health cash plan to claim towards dental, glasses, therapy, etc.
* Free access to a round-the-clock employee assistance program for advice and support
* Access to award-winning training and development
*T&C's apply based on contract
