Job Purpose/Overview The Lighting Panel Operator at Gatwick Airport, provides specialist and professional support to the Air Traffic Control Operators (ATCOs) and includes a wide area of responsibilities. Other duties include: Listening to the frequency and acting as a second pair of eyes and ears (e.g., spotting conflictions, incorrect read backs, taxi errors etc). Operation of airfield lighting panel incorporating airfield ground lighting and vehicle crossings, in accordance with instructions passed by the Ground Movement. Controller (GMC) to aircraft and vehicles. Identification and reporting of faults in the lighting system. Making routine and special MET Observations using Meteorology Systems (SAMOS) equipment. Dealing with flight plan enquiries and liaising with Flight Planning/Flow Management in Swanwick. Selection of brilliance levels of taxiway lighting to accord with the prevailing conditions as directed by the GMC controller. Providing a customer assistance and briefing service as required. Other operational support tasks in the Visual Control Room (VCR) (e.g., support for Watch Manager). Promoting and maintaining a harmonious and effective working relationship with Gatwick Airport Limited staff and with airline customers. Liaising with internal and external agencies whilst performing VCR support duties. Receipting and filtering of telephone calls from other organisations on the airfield. Other tasks appropriate to the grade, as directed by management. Essential skills and experience: Experience within Air Traffic Services Desirable. Experience in a London Terminal Manoeuvring Area (TMA) operation desirable. Ability to deal with unpredictable workload and conflicting demands is essential. Ability to react fast and efficiently under pressure. Ability to work well as part of a team. At least 5 GCSEs or an equivalent standard at grade C/4 or above, to include English and Maths. Additional Information: This position is for a 2-year Fixed term contract. The content and length of the training program will depend on experience.
