1. Deliver high quality Environmental Health Services as part of a team of officers,
ensuring the implementation of policies, practices and procedures relating to
Environmental Health Services/Housing functions. To ensure that Council policies,
including its Scheme of Delegation, are applied consistently, to promote uniform and
equitable standards for all individuals and establishments, thus promoting good
practices.
2. Personal management of an Environmental Health Services work plan, to secure
efficient performance of duties and working flexibly between sections and teams. This
will include consistency with management policies and practices of the Council and
the Housing and Public Protection Division to meet the needs of a constantly changing
service.
3. Comply with all financial procedures and policies to ensure that financial probity is
maintained.
4. Maintain an up-to-date, in-depth knowledge and application of the legislation,
procedures and technical aspects relating to Public Protection/Housing functions,
offer professional and expert advice as required and enabling the consistent delivery
of the Housing and Public Protection Business Plan objectives.
5. Prepare reports when required, take corrective action when necessary and respond
to changing needs, to achieve service delivery within the pre-determined objectives
for Public Protection and personal work plans.
6. Assist in consultative processes that maintain effective communication and liaison with
other teams, divisions, departments of the Council, Elected Members and other client
groups. To act as a Housing and Public Protection representative when required to do
so, in the positive promotion of the Council’s policies, its Code of Conduct and to
represent the best interests of the Authority.
7. Assist in the development of procedures and protocols to ensure the continued
delivery of a consistent and efficient Housing and Public Protection, Environmental
Protection Service and in the maintenance and review of the management
information systems for Housing and Public Protection, together with the provision of
investigative, analytical and accurate information to facilitate the decision-making
process.
Essential Criteria
Qualifications, Vocational training and Professional Memberships
M.Sc, B.Sc or Diploma in Environmental Health.
Registered with the Environmental Health Registration Board / Chartered Institute of
Environmental Health
Job Related Skills and Competencies
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
A commitment to customer care in the delivery of duties.
Competencies as required in the Food Law Code of Practice
Knowledge
In-depth knowledge of Environmental Health functions.
Experience
Demonstrable experience in Environmental Health Services

Additional post-graduate qualification in one or more Environmental Health Core Functions.
