Job Description for Senior Product Safety Engineer
The primary objective of this role is to ensure the safety and integrity of aircraft systems throughout their entire lifecycle.
Salary: £80,000 - £110,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience.
Key Responsibilities:
* Evaluate the safety of aircraft systems and products, including preliminary hazard analysis, hazard analysis, and system safety assessment reports.
* Generate, update, and review SSARs, HA reports, Fault Tree Analysis, and Event Tree Analysis to meet certification requirements.
* Create and review Aircraft Zonal Hazard Analysis Reports for certification or partner inputs.
* Maintain and update hazard logs for platforms and support products, generating safety assessments and design justifications.
* Review certification evidence for platform/support products, generating safety arguments to support certification.
* Ensure safety engineering evidence supports acceptable product design safety certification, preparing material for reviews.
* Conduct risk assessments for emergent issues and support Typhoon Platform System/Sub-System areas in safety assessments for continued airworthiness.
* Liaise with internal and external customers to agree on delivery timescales.
* Allocate tasks to qualified team members and manage personnel responsibilities, including performance and career development.
Essential Skills and Experience:
* HND/HNC/Degree in a STEM subject or relevant experience.
* Experience in safety engineering with strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
* Strong self-motivation and effective verbal and written communication skills.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
* Knowledge in aerospace/aeronautical engineering, systems or mechanical engineering, and safety engineering in military airborne platform design.
* Familiarity with safety standards (e.g., UK Regulatory Framework, Def-Stan 00-55/00-56, Mil-Std-882, DO-178, DO-254, ARP 4754, ARP 4761, EN 61508).
* Experience with safety toolsets (e.g., Fault Tree Analysis+, Reliability Workbench, Goal Structured Notation (GSN)).
* Ability to engage with senior technical and engineering leaders and external stakeholders.
* Leadership skills.
