Head of Machine Learning and Informatics
We are seeking an exceptional leader to join our innovative Techbio startup as the Head of Machine Learning and Informatics. This role will directly support the Chief Technology Officer and is pivotal in driving our efforts to leverage language models and advanced AI techniques in biotechnology, with a particular focus on protein in silico engineering.

Responsibilities
1. Lead the development and implementation of machine learning strategies, focusing on language models for biological data analysis and protein engineering.
2. Oversee the design and execution of ML pipelines for processing and analyzing large-scale genomic and proteomic datasets.
3. Spearhead the development of novel in silico protein engineering tools, leveraging AI and language models.
4. Guide the creation of AI-driven platforms for protein structure prediction, function optimization, and stability enhancement.
5. Collaborate with biologists and domain experts to translate complex protein engineering challenges into computational solutions.
6. Manage and mentor a team of ML engineers and computational biologists.
7. Stay abreast of the latest developments in AI, computational biology, and protein engineering.
8. Liaise with external partners and academic collaborators to foster innovation in AI-driven protein design.
9. Drive the integration of ML solutions into our broader R&D pipeline, particularly in protein engineering projects.
Qualifications
1. Ph.D. in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field.
2. Minimum 5 years of experience leading ML teams, preferably in a biotech setting with a focus on protein engineering.
3. Deep expertise in natural language processing, language models, and their application to biological data and protein sequences.
4. Strong understanding of protein structure, function, and the principles of protein engineering.
5. Proven experience in developing and deploying large-scale ML systems for protein design and optimization.
6. Excellent programming skills, particularly in Python and R, with experience in protein modelling software.
7. Familiarity with cloud computing platforms and big data technologies for handling large protein datasets.
8. Outstanding communication skills and ability to translate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
9. Track record of publications or patents in the field of AI in biology, particularly in computational protein engineering.
Desired Skills
1. Technical: Deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow), NLP libraries, protein structure prediction tools, molecular dynamics simulations.
2. Domain Knowledge: Protein engineering, structural biology, drug discovery processes, systems biology.
