We have an exciting opportunity to grow our team and are looking to appoint a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to work within a variety of pathways within the service. These include working as part of the mainstream offer in schools and community clinics and Specialist Inclusive Learning Centres across Leeds. You will be working across the city supporting children, young people and their families as well as school staff. You will provide interventions, ongoing support, coaching and modelling sessions for children with Speech, Language and Communication needs (SLCN). You will work within a team comprising of other Speech and Language Therapy Assistants, Speech and Language Therapists, Specialist Speech and Language Therapists and Technical Instructors.
We are a hardworking, forward-thinking and supportive service dedicated to providing the best possible care to the children of Leeds with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN). Our team consists of Speech and Language therapists and Speech and Language therapy assistants working alongside each other in a variety of settings and specialisms. These include:
1. Mainstream settings
2. Clinics
3. Areas of specialism such as ICAN (Integrated Children’s Additional Needs Service) Hubs
4. School Age learning disabilities
5. Deaf and Hearing impairment
6. Stammering
This is a full-time position (37.5 hours) and a car driver is essential.
As a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant you will work in a team of SLTs / other SLT Assistants plus technical instructors. You will support Speech and Language Therapists in their work with pre-school and school-aged children with SLCN. This post will involve direct work with children and families to develop the child's communication skills both individually and in groups (under the supervision of a Speech and Language Therapist), making resources, keeping records, and other administrative tasks. You would be working alongside practitioners such as Teachers, Teaching Assistants, Health Visitors and Nursery Nurses in mainstream settings as well as working closely with parents/carers in community clinics/schools and Specialist Inclusive Learning Centres.

You will have proven experience of working with children with a wide range of Speech, Language and Communication Needs.

You will be reliable, friendly and approachable.
You will be someone who works well within a team but who also works autonomously and independently.
You will be able to work flexibly according to the needs of the children, families, young people and service.
