This position provides mechanical engineering support for capital projects and complex repairs from concept to completion, including cost estimates, design, procurement, construction oversight, startup assistance, and documentation.
Job Responsibilities
The Ingevity Projects department Mechanical Engineer is responsible for developing and implementation of strategies, specifications, and programs to enhance project delivery and to reduce sourcing, operating and maintenance costs; this includes the application of new technology. The Mechanical Engineer shall also provide support during design review, procurement, fabrication, installation and operation of piping, mechanical, static and rotating equipment.
The Mechanical Engineer will act as technical lead and mechanical design authority for all capital projects.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Act as responsible mechanical engineer/design authority on engineering decisions
2. Ensure all assets operate in full compliance with internal and external statutory safety standards
3. Support engineering work for projects ensuring timely delivery to specification
4. Travel to supplier sites to manage engineering activities
5. Covering all aspects of mechanical scope (vessels, machinery, piping, packages) including preparation of technical specifications, review of quotations, review of vendor drawings and preparation of design schemes.
6. Ensure that all mechanical engineering works are undertaken in accordance with the conditions and requirements of Ingevity Standards, UK/International standards and relative legislation
7. Responsible for overseeing mechanical engineering activities for Capital projects at Ingevity UK Ltd. Warrington site. Ensure all technical requirements such as project specifications, data sheets etc. are in full compliance with project and company requirements, standardised processes and are delivered to the highest technical quality standards.
8. Provide clear guidance to contractors, sub-contractors and vendors and facilitate resolution of mechanical technical issues to complete mechanical engineering activities to meet project objectives and milestones.
9. During start-up and early operations phases until the performance tests completion, provide adhoc field engineering assistance.
10. Carry out technical evaluations, including risk-based evaluation of complex engineering issues, resolution of mechanical related matters with significant project execution and/or commercial impact to ensure optimum outcomes to meet technical and execution expectations.
11. Expertise about static equipment is a must, as well as rotating equipment and packages such as steam boilers, pressure reduction stations, cooling towers.
12. Resolve mechanical discipline issues to ensure engineering design addresses Ingevitys expectations and objectives. Communicate and elevate issues before they escalate to project management when necessary. Review technical aspects of mechanical packages purchase orders with contractors and vendors to ensure a safe and seamless integration of new mechanical equipment into the existing operating facilities.
13. Develop, update and amend design/project philosophies, specifications and procedures ensuring that all references to Mechanical Engineering are current and relevant.
14. Coordinate and analyse issues for resolution. Provide Mechanical Engineering input to other engineering disciplines, construction, procurement etc. as necessary.
15. Interface with site maintenance organization to update Maintenance Strategy for new or modified assets including spares reviews, routine maintenance and OEM guidance
16. Support commissioning, startup and system completing activities and make appropriate recommendations to management on mechanical matters.
17. Integrate with and create teams including, but not limited to, safety program progress, root cause failure analysis and operational stewardship. Engineer must be able to perform as a team member and leader.
Qualifications and DESIRED SKILLS
18. Bachelor’s Degree – Mechanical Engineering or relevant degree and experience
19. 5 – 10 yrs. experience with chemical manufacturing and mechanical systems including vessels and piping. This should include experience in project execution as well as providing maintenance support to production operations.
20. Experience working in a COMAH/High Hazard site is preferred
21. Extensive theoretical and applied knowledge of mechanical engineering principles applied in a manufacturing facility.
22. Experience of specifying equipment in use with high hazard process streams following all correct regulations (ex. PSSR, PED)
23. The ability to manage and organize time, interact with people from all levels of the organization and capable of sustaining a drive for excellence.
24. Ability to communicate clearly by written and verbal reporting and possess above average fluency with technical software.
25. Attention to detail should be an ingrained behavior.
26. This position is in a 24/7 manufacturing plant environment and some extended working hours are required to complete aggressive shutdown and installation work schedules.
27. Flexibility for short duration travel to visit suppliers.
