Job overview
An exciting 12-month maternity cover opportunity has become available within the Children’s Speech and Language Team based at Springboard Child Development Centre, Carlisle.
We are looking for a highly skilled Children’s Speech and Language Therapist to take on this fantastic developmental opportunity, working closely alongside Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy colleagues.
The successful applicant will be a key player in working alongside your specialist colleagues around the county, working collaboratively with partner agencies to develop effective and responsive services to children and their families.
If successful, you will be required to travel independently, as the role includes visiting children in clinics, at home, and in the school or nursery setting, as well as to NHS bases around Cumbria to attend meetings and training or development.
The post involves assessing and providing advice and intervention for children and young people aged 0-19 years with a variety of developmental conditions.
Main duties of the job
1. To be responsible for the strategic delivery of the universal and targeted speech and language therapy offer.
2. Act as a resource for knowledge and current evidence related to practice in this area, including the National and County Wide Public Health Agendas and Early Years Strategy.
3. Share expertise related to key messages and model best practice with colleagues, families, and practitioners.
4. To undertake effective and holistic assessment of children referred.
5. To promote interagency work to ensure all children have appropriate language and communication opportunities.

Qualifications
* Degree or equivalent qualification in Speech and Language Therapy approved by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
* Registered with HPC.
* On-going membership with the RCSLT.
* Evidence of formal training / self-study / specialist experience to Masters level equivalent.
* Evidence of advanced postgraduate training in field of specialism.
* Membership of specialist interest groups.
Experience
* Evidence of leadership skills - clinical leadership skills.
* Experience of delivering training to others (parents, other agencies).
* Experience of implementing own service development initiatives.
* Experience of working in a variety of community settings.
* Evidence of Leadership Training.
Knowledge
* To demonstrate highly developed specialist knowledge across the full range of work procedures and practices, which are underpinned by theoretical knowledge and relevant practical experience.
* High level of knowledge of current national and local strategies, clinical guidelines, and legislation relating to the delivery of speech and language therapy services to early years and school-aged population.
* To have a highly developed knowledge of a broad range of specialist assessments as required.
* An understanding of the roles of other professionals involved in the specialist area of practice.
Skills and Aptitudes
* Highly developed physical skills where a high degree of precision, speed, and high levels of hand/eye and sensory coordination are essential for performing real-time, accurate phonemic and phonetic transcriptions and signing to support speech.
* To use highly developed auditory, perceptual, and observational skills, together with highly specialist knowledge, underpinned by current evidence-based practice to assess, make differential diagnoses, structure clear care plans, and adapt practice to meet individual circumstances.
* To be able to use highly developed communication skills for communicating and understanding highly complex, sensitive, and contentious information in a verbal or written form, where there may be significant barriers to acceptance and understanding, which need to be overcome, using highly developed negotiation, influencing, persuasive, and empathic or reassurance skills.
* Skills to lead and promote multi-agency and inter-agency working and collaborative practice.
* To be able to maintain intense concentration on a frequent basis in all aspects of patient management.
* Ability to manage own time, prioritize tasks, and work independently to manage complex and highly specialized cases.

* Full driving licence.
* Physical effort from Band 7 profile.
