An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic person to join our busy but friendly Clinical Coding Team.
The post holder will be the key coding lead for the Divisional Service Team the post will also involve the day-to-day coding, supervision of the coding team and largely be responsible for assisting the Head of Clinical Coding in developing systems and strategies to improve the overall quality of clinical coding. This will incorporate mentoring, internal auditing and training of clinical coders when required, with a strong component of liaison with clinical staff. Candidates therefore must be Accredited Clinical Coders.
You will be part of an established team in promoting Clinical Coding and HRG's to Clinicians, Junior doctors, other health professionals and various levels of clerical staff and ensuring collection of good quality data.

Main duties of the job
Assist the Head of Clinical Coding in the development, implementation and maintenance of a Clinical Coding Strategy, policy and systems to ensure a Clinical Coding service which meets best practice guidance
To integrate Clinical Coding within the Trust, by liaising with the division's clinical and operational managers and clinicians to advise on data recording practices to ensure clinical coding accurately reflects care delivered and communicate complex coding rules and standards to ensure accuracy and consistency of information
Abstract, analyse, translate and data entry of complex medical patient care records into diagnostic and procedural coding in an accurate and timely manner adhering to the Trust deadlines.

Qualifications
Essential
* Education to degree level or equivalent professional experience
* UK National Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ) Certificate.
* Attendance of Clinical Coding Refresher within the last three years.
* Clinical Coding Foundation Certification.
* Attendance of Clinical Coding speciality workshops.
* Pass mark of 85% for internal specialist clinical coding exam undertaken before appointment to the role.
* Achievement of level 3 standard at audit (95% accuracy)
Desirable
* NHS Digital approved clinical coding auditor ort trainer qualification or working towards
* AMSPAR (The Association of Medical Secretaries, Practice Managers, Administrators and Receptionists).
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
* Expert understanding of anatomy and physiology and medical terminology
* Substantial clinical coding experience in an acute NHS Trust post ACC qualification
* Experience of assigning ICD-10 and OPCS-4 codes in a wide range of specialties
* Specialist knowledge of clinical coding rules and conventions as set out in the International Classification of Diseases and OPCS classification of operational procedures
* Logical and analytical ability in order to solve complex operational and coding issues.
* Comprehensive understanding of Patient Administrative systems and other clinical systems.
* Good understanding of national and local data definitions and flows
* Good understanding of the relationship between clinical coding, HRGs and Payment by results in the NHS
* Impact/influence of Clinical Coding on other areas. e.g. HSMR (Hospital Standardised Mortality Ratio) / SHMI (Summary Hospital-level Mortality Indicator) / RAMI (Risk Adjusted Mortality Indicator)
