Job summary – What to expect: The Sustainability team within the Global Technical Innovation Group (GTIG), is responsible for delivering the CooperVision sustainability strategy for operations, considering carbon, plastic and waste impact from product design to consumer post use. The Senior Engineer – Circular Economy & Sustainability will be a Global Subject Matter Expert in circular and sustainable materials and product and process design considerations for CooperVision. This role is responsible for the investigation, assessment, development and feasibility delivery of product and process design opportunities to support the business in achieving its sustainability ambitions. Core to the role literacy of state of the the art in the assessment of circularity including relevant standards, regulations and guides. This is an engineering position with design and testing responsibility for the development of environmentally sound and ecological solutions working alongside relevant teams to deliver reduced impact products and processes. This position will support major sustainability transformation programs over the mid to long term horizon for CooperVision operations. About you: Essential Functions & Accountabilities: Excellent capability in research and analysis, and experience in the application of different approaches to our existing production technologies. An awareness of other relevant technologies on the market will be beneficial. A solid understanding of manufacturing processes, and the related supply chain and quality control processes. A solid understanding of Life Cycle Assessment and environmental design. Ability to communicate effectively within the discipline and with cross disciplinary teams around the business. Ability to communicate, influence and educate in area of expertise internally, and with existing and prospective suppliers. Manage change control activities, including raising Engineering Change Orders (ECO) and providing technical and compliance information to Regulatory teams for RAID (Risk, Assumptions, Issues & Decision) assessments. Support the education of multifunctional teams in the generation of risk assessments, initial change assessments and completion of all identified mitigation activities. Ability to keep abreast of new developments in industry and environmental regulation and translate into possible uses/implications for CVI. An understanding of Quality Assurance and Quality Control systems, medical device/pharmaceutical, FDA, ISO and International regulatory requirements. An understanding of where and how measurement systems are used for quality/process. Generate balanced score cards cost/environmental benefit/risk analyses. Raise and manage capital expenditure. Understanding of core principles of Project Management. Travel Requirements This role involved travel with the UK and internationally approximately 5% - 20%. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Technical Competencies Solid understanding of regulated manufacturing with contact lens manufacturing process preferred. Applied knowledge of Life Cycle Assessment. Applied knowledge of Eco Design. Applied knowledge of Circularity. Background and experience in process engineering. Capability in research and analysis.
