Conflicts Lead and Team Manager (Office of the General Counsel)
Job Introduction
This role provides an opportunity to be involved in the development of a new central conflicts team, helping to determine whether a new client or matter can, or should be, accepted by us in line with the SRA Code of Conduct, our existing client base and our own ethical framework. The role will utilise and develop your commercial awareness and compliance knowledge along with your people management skills.
You will act as Conflicts Lead and Team manager, leading a team of Conflict Analysts and help to train and develop them using the Intapp system.
Role Responsibility
As Conflicts Lead:
* Oversight of the running and consideration of conflict and sanction checks within Intapp system to consider whether new client or matter instructions can be accepted by the Firm, taking into account legal and regulatory requirements, internal policies and reputational/commercial considerations.
* Liaise with colleagues in the legal teams to establish whether a conflict of interest or material information consideration exists.
* Monitor volume of requests and ensure compliance with SLA timescales agreeing deadlines outside of the agreed service levels, where appropriate.
* Ensure consistent data entry within Intapp system.
* Understand regulatory rules around confidentiality of information and how to establish information barriers within Intapp Walls.
* Coordinate ad hoc questions/queries from fee earning teams relating to conflicts of interest and other engagement risk issues, involving the Office of General Counsel as appropriate.
* Develop internal Conflicts team processes and training on system use and data input.
As Team Manager:
* Mentor, develop and provide ongoing training to Conflict Analysts.
* Manage the team of Conflict Analysts including monitoring performance and development, allocating work from central work queue, setting objectives and conducting ongoing performance management.
* Oversee all conflict checks ensuring they are conducted in accordance with the agreed strategy for conflict resolution and agreed service levels.
* Manage escalation from Conflict Analysts on complex conflict issues and sanctions queries, liaising with the legal teams and with the Office of General Counsel, where appropriate.
* Develop a strong working relationship with key stakeholders, including the Office of General Counsel.
* Organise and report on the service of the Conflicts Analyst team to key stakeholders including the Office of General Counsel and implement any recommended changes to policies and approach in accordance with regulatory or firm requirements.
The Ideal Candidate
Key skills and experience:
* A law degree desirable.
* Experience in compliance and knowledge of conflict of interest rules [ideally gained in an international law practice].
* Experience of working in a centralised conflicts team or wider compliance function preferable.
* Experience of gathering and analysing information to solve problems in a methodical and practical way.
* Experience of managing, coaching and developing people.

* Highly organised - proven ability to work to competing deadlines, prioritise appropriately and maintain a positive working attitude.

* A working knowledge of Intapp Intake & Conflicts.

* Ability to work both unsupervised and as part of a team.
* Strong problem solving and analytical skills; can clearly explain and present problems and issues to others and contribute to their resolution. Identifies all relevant facts and engages with teams to understand the background before making a decision, displays excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
* Demonstrates logical thinking and ability to organise and prioritise own workload and workload of the team.
* Demonstrates a commercial approach to conflict resolution working within the regulatory framework.
* Takes ownership of issues and manages stakeholder expectations.
