Western Kentucky University is pleased to announce we are accepting applications for appointment to Senior Zone Maintenance Technician. The successful candidate will oversee facilities maintenance and cleaning services for all aspects of the building and the grounds at WKU in Glasgow and WKU in Owensboro Regional Campuses. The position is based from Glasgow. Supervising a small staff of custodial and maintenance employees, the person is responsible for the maintenance and repair of HVAC, Plumbing, Carpentry, Painting, and Electrical equipment and accessories in buildings, as well as campus grounds and other duties as assigned. The position works frequently at computers and with approved WKU vendors to provide some services. This position primarily works Monday-Friday on an adjusted schedule of 6:30 am - 3 pm and reports to the Director, Regional Campuses.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
1. Performs computer work such as e-mails, spreadsheets, word processing, and internet parts research to order supplies, check on HVAC systems, schedule employees, and complete and maintain accurate work time and materials records.
2. Serves as on-point and billing liaison for university-approved contractors for grounds care, snow removal, HVAC repair, plumbing, electrical, and other service technicians.
3. Keeps routine of replacements and safety checks for both campuses, including checking mechanical rooms, performance, filter replacements and coil cleaning of HVAC units, eyewash/shower stations, AEDs, light bulbs, emergency lights, fire extinguishers, and exit signs.
4. Supervises full-time custodial staff and performs some light custodial work as a backup and supervises a part-time maintenance staff.
5. Repairs fixtures and maintains campus buildings, including damaged walls, occasional painting, and light carpentry work, ceiling tiles, window blinds, and tile and baseboards.
6. Maintains and repairs basic wiring, light machinery, and electrical circuits and replaces switch plates and ballasts.
7. Replaces broken plumbing fixtures and repairs valves, faucets, traps, and other sanitary fixtures.
8. Collaborates with other WKU departments, including serving as BEST Team Member.
9. Meets all safety requirements and adheres to standard safety procedures.
10. Be on call for response to emergency campus maintenance concerns.
Job Requirements:
1. High school diploma or GED equivalency.
2. Basic computer skills.
3. Ability to demonstrate skills in basic maintenance, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, grounds care, or any combination.
4. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Physical Abilities Required
1. Must be able to perform strenuous physical labor, which includes heavy lifting, carrying up to 50 lbs., as well as standing, walking, reaching, carrying, stooping and kneeling.
2. Ability to work in noisy and high temperature mechanical spaces, climb ladders and stairs, and work in both indoor and outdoor working conditions in all types of weather.
3. Requires working outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
4. Must be able to wear protective eyewear, gloves, ear wear and head protection during work times for one's safety as the task dictates.
Additional Information:
Hourly Range: $20.05-21.40
