Primary Care Network (PCN) Pharmacy Technician

An exciting opportunity has arisen in Clinical Pharmacy in General Practice Primary Care Networks (PCNs). We are recruiting to a Full Time Band 5 PCN Pharmacy Technician to work in Welwyn Garden City PCN for a 9 month maternity leave cover. It is a great time to join the PCN pharmacy team which consists of clinical pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. The expanding team works to support the safe and effective management of medicines prescribing and monitoring to support personalised patient care and achievement of national and local targets.
In line with the NHS Long Term Plan and the primary care network directed enhanced service contract by NHS England, Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust is providing clinical pharmacy services to PCNs in the local area. This is a unique opportunity for a pharmacy technician to experience work in the rapidly expanding area of primary care. This role is part of an exciting programme of transformation to develop a new model of care across a PCN, whilst retaining the team support, benefits, training support and familiarity of employment in an NHS organisation.
Main duties of the job
The Technician will help patients get the best from their medicines, through clinical medication reviews and medicines management, working in partnership with established primary care clinicians and local stakeholders. As part of a wider team complementing clinical pharmacists, these first-wave pioneer pharmacy technicians will provide support to the GP surgeries and PCN multi-disciplinary teams, the patients they care for and services to achieve improvement in care quality to achieve local and national health initiatives.
We are seeking applications from highly motivated, forward-thinking, experienced and personable Pharmacy Technicians interested in developing their career and support to primary care and healthcare systems locally. You will have excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills and encourage a positive culture of medicines optimisation principles to assist the PCN in achieving local and national medicines-related objectives.
Whilst primary care experience will be valuable, it is not essential but having a medicines management background will be beneficial. You will need sound pharmacy clinical knowledge and computer literacy. The role will also be supported by a full training package, according to needs.

In addition to the basic salary, this post attracts a High-Cost Area Supplement of 5% of basic salary as per Agenda for Change terms.

Person Specification
Education Qualifications
* Professional registration with GPhC
* BTEC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in pharmaceutical sciences
* Good clinical knowledge of drugs and basic clinical therapeutics
* Knowledge of administrative procedures and information analysis
* Basic knowledge of project management principles
* Knowledge of the primary care structures and the changing NHS environment
Experience
* Evidence of continued professional development (CPD)
* Experience of working as a qualified, registered pharmacy technician in primary care, community or hospital pharmacy for a minimum of 3 years
* Experience in a clinical setting
* Experience of multidisciplinary working
* Experience in training and education of both staff and other healthcare professionals
* Experience of supervising others
* Experience of evidence-based medicine and knows where to obtain relevant and up-to-date clinical and regulatory information.
* Experience of working in both secondary care and community pharmacy
* Experience of working with GPs
* Experience of using and analysing epact.net and PACT data
* Experience of managing others
* Experience of project management
* Experience of audit work
