Associate Healthcare Scientist and MDM Co-ordinator
East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust
This is an exciting opportunity to join the team within Cellular Pathology at EKHUFT and to help shape future strategy and services for our local population. The specific role requirement is to assist in the organisation and prioritisation of the cellular pathology team's workload, primarily in support of the multidisciplinary team meetings (MDM). The role will support and work with the team in order to provide a comprehensive medical secretarial and/or secretarial service, ensuring the delivery of a coordinated and consistent operational management service.
Cellular pathology is known for its strong team spirit and open friendly culture. There is great emphasis on cross communication between the technical and diagnostic teams. The role of cellular pathology in the MDM directly influences patient treatment.
Kent and Medway Pathology Network (KMPN) is a formal partnership of seven laboratories across three pathology services in four acute Trusts. Our 1000 colleagues provide services across the health and care sector to a population of nearly 2 million.
Main duties of the job
There are 22+ multidisciplinary team meetings (MDM's) a week, and ahead of each meeting the diagnostic material (slides and reports) from all the histology and cytology cases due to be discussed at the meeting need to be assembled for review by the pathologist presenting to the MDT. This is a full-time activity and while other support staff are rotated through the activity, the band 4 AHCS co-ordinates all MDM activity.
This role also provides additional support to the Pathway Coordinator position to ensure timely identification and prioritisation of Histology cases of patients on urgent diagnostic pathways that have not been identified as such by the requesting clinicians.
KMPN are at an exciting point of our network development with a recommendation to form a joint venture across the four Trusts leading transformation. Our projects include single IT solutions, procurement and digital projects, to ensure our services are able to meet growing demand for our service users, patients and communities.
You will have a fantastic opportunity to grow your career in KMPN. We are developing a network academy, a platform for all network education and training from apprenticeships to advanced clinical and scientific qualifications with a single faculty making best use of our talented educators and trainers. You will not be expected to work at sites outside of EKHUFT. However, there will be opportunities for collaborative working within the network.
