Maintenance Electrician Location: Croydon £31,081 - £33,665 per annum Reports To: Maintenance Manager / Head of Estates Job Summary: The Maintenance Electrician will be responsible for carrying out complex and non-routine electrical services within the Trust, maintaining and repairing plant, equipment, and services. The role involves fault analysis, testing, modification, installation, and compliance with all statutory regulations and good practice guides. This proactive position requires excellent resource management, ensuring security and efficiency across the site. Main Duties and Responsibilities: Operational Responsibilities: Actively participate in the operation and control of engineering planned maintenance schemes. Contribute to the operation of the Trust’s works labour control scheme, completing all required paperwork, including job dockets and timesheets. Be available to work overtime for emergency repairs as needed by management. Carry Trust communication devices (such as pagers, two-way radios, or PDAs) to respond immediately to emergencies and urgent issues. Maintenance Responsibilities: Carry out prompt, effective repairs and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on all types of plant, clinical and non-clinical equipment, including nurse call systems, air conditioning/ventilation, fire alarms, generators, batteries, boilers, motors, pumps, emergency lighting, fixed electrical equipment, lighting, power, security systems, door entry systems, data and communication systems, lifts, plumbing installations, heating installations, and fuel systems. Undertake essential repair work and general maintenance activities as directed by the Team Leader, maintaining regular communication regarding plant or equipment failures and requesting goods/services as necessary. Perform fault finding and troubleshooting on complex and critical systems, using cause-effect analysis and detailed examinations to resolve issues. Conduct planned preventative maintenance inspections and commissioning tests in line with Trust procedures. Complete all relevant report sheets and test certificates for maintenance work. Adhere to planned maintenance schedules and carry out all tasks in accordance with regulations. Immediately notify the Team Leader of any deviations from regulations or standards. Interpret and follow engineering drawings, specifications, and safety guidelines when completing maintenance work. Use relevant tools and equipment safely and appropriately for all maintenance tasks. Perform inspection and commissioning tests for installations and issue appropriate completion certificates. Training and Development: Attend training sessions as required to maintain knowledge and expertise in electrical and maintenance systems. Provide technical advice and training support to Trainees and Maintenance Assistants, ensuring their professional development and competence. Take on any other duties appropriate to the role and grade as directed by the management. Skills and Experience: Electrical Expertise: Proven experience in electrical maintenance, fault diagnosis, and repair in a complex, multi-site environment. Qualifications: Relevant electrical qualifications (e.g., City & Guilds 2360, NVQ Level 3, 17th or 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations). Compliance Knowledge: Strong understanding of statutory regulations, health and safety standards, and safety procedures for electrical maintenance. Problem-Solving Skills: Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting abilities, especially for complex and critical systems. Communication Skills: Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for liaising with management and staff across the Trust. Organisational Skills: Ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment. Training Experience: Capability to provide training and support to less experienced staff.
