Job summary To lead and manage the play team and co-ordinate planned play activities for children and young people aged 0-16years. Review and develop play services at University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) in collaboration with the Paediatric lead. To maintain a safe, child focused environment where play is encouraged for all children attending the Emergency Department. To guide play support to meet the diverse needs of all children attending the hospital. To ensure play interventions are documented in accordance with Trust record keeping standards. To use specialist knowledge when implementing alternative play therapies to meet the needs of patients undergoing hospital procedures. Incorporate knowledge of child development when selecting play activities, considering the psychological and emotional needs of the patient. To work with the multidisciplinary team and families to promote the importance of play during hospital attendance. Have a knowledge and understanding of Trust child safeguarding policies and procedures. Encourage an environment of professional curiosity and report any concerns relating to child protection issues to the nurse in charge. There are 2 posts available 1 x 37.5 hrs at BHH 1x 19 hrs at GHH Main duties of the job To facilitate the provision of childcare support to families and provide appropriate health promotion. To provide guidance in devising play programmes to include. Preparation for invasive and non-invasive procedures Distraction therapy To facilitate the organisation and supervision of play activities for individual and groups of children and young people according to their individual needs. To co-ordinate a yearly programme of play, educational activities and displays acknowledging the diverse multicultural calendar. Co-ordinate a plan of daily play activities for the waiting rooms when capacity allows.
